I'm planning out my workout schedule and wondering if anyone has taken a water aerobics class.
Can water aerobics suffice as a cardio class? The main reason I attend gym class as a fun way to get my cardio out of the way. Anytime I've seen water aerobics on TV it's always been dominated by 80 yr old women.
This is the vague description from the gym's site:
Discover the benefits of a challenging water aerobic workout. Exercising in water provides increased circulation, muscular endurance and increased stamina without the impact of land based aerobics.
Can anyone share on what I should expect if I decide to try a class out?
I've never done it myself, but I think it can substitute. It's just popular with older people who don't want to aggravate arthritis, etc. because it's gentle on joints

I've done it before and at the gym I went to, my mom and I were the only people in the class under 75. I remember thinking I was getting an okay workout, and it probably could have been a lot harder if the class was aimed at younger people, but it just wasn't for me.
I've taken it in the past @ the Y & loved it. I attended classes in the morning & evening which had a variety of ages in both. I took it as a method of physical therapy after my knee surgery & found that it was a great overall workout & continued to take classes until I left Hawaii.
I definitely think the instructor has a lot to do with it. If you've got a class predominantly filled with seniors, the pace tends to be slower. However, one of the classes I attended was comprised of women of all ages which was a great change-up in my routine.
I'd take a class & see how you like it. Talk to the staff & ask who has a more therapy-based class compared to the fitness-based class.
your post piqued my interest. I ran x-country in high school and did water aerobics to help when I had knee and hamstring injuries. It's definitely fun - I thought it was hard because it was different - but I think it would definitely be a good addition to work outs!
