my family has always joked that i have a mild form of ADHD, and now i'm wondering if i really do. does everyone exhibit some degree of this? what specialist would you see? how would you know what's just plain spaciness, and what's actually ADHD? sorry for all the questions
A little over a year ago, I was convinced that I had adult ADHD because of the way I felt when I was at work. I couldn't concentrate, I stopped working to surf the internet every few minutes, Ihad to re-read everything because I didn't pay attention while I was reading, and I had the short term memory of a goldfish. Now, I think I was just bored at work, because when I got a new job, all of those symptoms went away almost instantly. Except for my memory, which always has been and still is horrible. Also, I read somewhere that most people can't sit down at work and do productive work for several hours straight, that's normal to need an internet break every once in a while. Maybe you're bored at work/school and that's what's making you spacey?
My DH has been diagnosed with ADD, which I think is the more passive version of ADHD. He takes Adderall daily, and it has really helped him. He always did fine in school and at work, but achieving true focus and concetration was difficult for him. He got distracted easily and couldn't stay on task with projects that took a long time to accomplish. Now things are a lot better, and he's much happier, too. He wishes he'd been diagnosed years ago.
DH took some kind of test through our university to get diagnosed... I think it was through the Counseling Center. So I imagine your general health care provider could give you a referral to a psych specialist for testing if you described what's wrong. Or maybe Bastet is right, and you're just experiencing symptoms of boredom. Either way, there are tests you can take to see if the problem is medical. Good luck, and pm me if you have any questions.

your DH sounds a lot like me. i can't discern if i'm just an antsy person to begin with, or if i truly have some form of ADD/ADHD. one of my resolutions this year is to meet with a professional who knows what's up.
