MEL'S SECRET DAUGHTER

A PRETTY blonde is taking legal action against troubled Hollywood superstar Mel Gibson to force him to take a DNA test and prove she's his secret daughter.

Painter Carmel Sloane claims the millionaire actor made her mum pregnant on a mattress in the back of his car before he was famous 30 YEARS ago.

And now her 10-year-old son Jordan bears a striking resemblance to his secret GRANDAD.

Carmel, 29, said: "I'm not doing it for his money. I just want to meet the man I've always known was my dad — and for him to get to know his grandson."

The paternity suit is the latest blow for the Braveheart star. Earlier this year he was arrested for drink-driving and launched an anti-Jewish tirade against cops.

Legal papers will be served on Gibson, 50, this week and he will either have to admit he's the father or have a swab taken from inside his mouth for DNA testing.

Carmel — who has seen every film he's made — added: "I'd love it if he recognised us as family. I'm not looking for a meal ticket. I am happy with my life."

Her amazing story began in 1976 when Mel, then a young Australian wannabe actor in Adelaide, picked up Carmel's mum Marilyn as she was hitch-hiking.

The aspiring star — who now has seven children with his wife of 26 years, Robyn — hadn't even made his first movie when he stopped for the blonde 17-year-old thumbing a lift to Sydney.

Carmel's mum Marilyn, now 47, recalls: "I was a slim young woman in tight-fitting jeans on the side of the road when a station wagon stopped.

"Mel turned to look at me with those amazing blue eyes and I was mesmerised. He said, ‘Where are you going?' I said, ‘A long way from here.'

"He told me his name was Mel. He said he would take me all the way but first he had to go home and get some petrol money.

"He made me hide under a blanket in the back of the car, saying something about his mother being in town. We stopped outside a house and he came out with a mattress and a couple of pillows and some petrol money.

"He said he had brought the mattress in case we had to stop for the night. We got on really well. He was charming and funny. He told me he was going to be a famous movie star.

"He said he was going to change his name but I told him not to. I said Mel Gibson was a really nice name and it suited him.

"When we stopped for the night Mel got in the back on the mattress but I stayed in the front. I said I didn't trust him but to be honest I didn't trust myself either! He was so sexy. I didn't have any contraceptives with me and I hadn't had much to do with guys.

"Eventually he persuaded me to join him in the back. I told him, ‘If anything happens and I get pregnant I'll come looking for you'. He replied, ‘I am going to be famous. You will always know where to find me.'

"We spent the night making love and talking. But when it got light Mel said he had to be back at work — in an orange juice factory in Adelaide.

"I got out of the car and never saw him again. It broke my heart to walk away.

"Even though we had only been together for one night we had really hit it off."

Marilyn discovered she was pregnant soon after the one-night stand and in January 1977 Carmel was born. She said: "It crossed my mind to try to get in touch but I didn't know his address."

The young mum tried to forget about Mel and when Carmel was 15 months old she met and married another man and had two more children.

Amazingly Marilyn didn't realise that the handsome stranger who had fathered her baby was famous until EIGHT YEARS later. "I saw a poster of Mad Max 3 by chance and I was absolutely staggered to see it was Mel. I had to ask friends about the previous Mad Max movies and I rented them all," she confessed.

"I was over the moon for him. I was very happy he had achieved what he set out to do. He told me he was going to be a movie star and he had made it.

"I was glad then that I hadn't told him about the baby because I think it would have brought him down in those days. He may never have become a star.

"There was a real resemblance between him and Carmel and I started to keep a scrapbook of pictures of him for her to have later in life.

"I would never have told Carmel who her father was but my mother blurted it out one day. From then on she would cut out pictures of him and we went to see all his movies together."

Marilyn first attempted to contact the Hollywood hero in 1995 when he bought a house back in Australia. She drove to try to meet him but by the time she got there he'd flown back to the States.

She revealed: "I didn't want to cause trouble but I wanted him to know about Carmel. I thought he might want to know her."

The following year when her daughter gave birth to Jordan, Marilyn tried to make contact again but failed. Now she is hoping that the legal bid may persuade Mel to get in touch.

She declared: "His daughter is a fabulous, beautiful young woman. Any father would be proud of her."

And Carmel is desperate to meet the star—director of the current No1 US film, Apocalypto.

She said: "I have grown up being told Mel Gibson is my father. I've been told it for 20 years.

"I would like some kind of closure either way. I don't want it to go on for another 20 years.

"I've seen all his movies. My mum had a Mad Max poster on the wall for as long as I can remember. I look at him and I can see a similarity.

"I would love to meet him but I wouldn't expect to be part of his life. I'm not looking for a piece of the pie or that lifestyle.

"I would like him to know he has a grandson who is a great kid. He is very bright and creative. He would be proud of him."

The News of the World put the claims to Gibson's representatives, but they failed to respond.

Carmel added: "We have no choice but to go legal so that we can get to the bottom of this once and for all. A simple DNA test will sort it out."
