I'm a tech boob...

I was just looking at the pictures from Collette's birthday, and totally couldn't see the 2 people in the first pic (didn't even know they were there until someone mentioned it). When I close my laptop screen part way, it lightens, and I can see them better. (this also explains why I can not always tell the color of items in pictures people post here). Sheesh!

But, I am looked around on this thing before and seem to be able to find a way to change everything about the monitor except to lighten it! I don't have any buttons on the computer its self to adjest it, and I did a few help seraches and haven't found anything.

I have Microsoft XP professional.

Help!

I cannot find where to lighten or darken, but fyi, the people in the background were really dark, and I'd be surprised if anyone would even notice them besides me 'cause I'm strange like that. sometimes, with my laptop, I will angle it to see better. don't know if you're dealing with a laptop or not.  anyway, I don't believe there's a control to lighten or darken (at least not on my computer!)

there should be a brightness panel on your monitor. i know dell laptops all have a brightness control on the computer, too.

who's your monitor manufacturer, and about when did you get it?

It's a Dell Inspiron 9300 from August of 2005 (so about 16 months old). It's a Laptop.

I don't see any external controls.

Hold down the blue function button while hitting the blue sun symbol up or down buttons on your keyboard to adjust brightness.
