I need to get new make-up, but I always feel somewhat overwhelmed at the make-up counter. I prefer to have one of the women do my make-up and show me what she thinks will look good w/ my coloring. In the past I've gone to MAC (the store) and maid an appointment to have my make-up done. So, my question is, at those counters at Macy's and Bloomingdales..do I just walk up and ask them to do my make-up? Is there a minimum to purchase?
I think it's easier to do when they're not super-busy, but you can just walk up to the ladies at the makeup counter (they're especially nice at Nordies IME). There's no minimum, but I usually end up walking away with a lot of stuff.
I usually prefer Sephora as well because of the fact that you can try items from so many more brands than any given dept. store counter.
i like getting my makeup done at mac. their prices are pretty good and the makeup artists are usually required to be licensed. (not that you need one to do makeup, but i prefer a licensed artist)
plus, i know they aren't on commission, so i don't feel pressure.
i like sephora, but i've never had a good application there, sadly.
I also prefer Sephora since they can give you recommendations that will work for you, regardless of the brand, instead of being tied to selling the brand they work for.
I've also had my makeup done at the Stila counter at Nordstrom. I would just call them and make an appointment for some help.
