I'm in the midst of decorating our den. We have a lot of trees on our property which is translating to a natural/organic look inside the house. I've painted our den a light blue and I decided I think little birdies would look cute painted over the door frame and the closet door. There are 5 little birds in all. DH thinks their cute, but was concerned that this room looks a bit like a nursery. I'm planning on putting up black frames with white matting for pictures on the wall, which I think will help. What do you all think?
Here are the pics of the birds:
Here's a pic of the futon with the throw pillows I'm using. Please excuse the horrible mess. The walls are now blue:
I agree with ttara123 that darker pieces/accessories will bring contrast and sophisication to the room. I'd stick with the blue/black/white theme, with maybe some green accents (looks like one of the pillows on the futon, and maybe add a topiary?) and some shiny metal accents would look cool.
And for some reason I can't identify, the birds/blue seem to fit well with a library/office type room - makes it even less nursery-like than if it was just a spare room IMO.
ETA: And if this is the room you're planning on putting the peacock feathers in that makes it even cooler!

well... i'm sure you must know how i feel about the birdies.
i don't think the birdies by themselves make it look like a nursery at all. if you keep the rest of the accessories & furniture sophisticated there shouldn't be a concern. stick with what you mentioned, "natural / organic" when it comes to choosing the other pieces and i think it'll look great. can't wait to see finished pics!
