So I have been considering changing careers for a while now and a friend has personally recommended me to her boss in an assitant postion at her company (which is in finance/stock brokerage).
The job sounds really interesting and I think I could do it, however my career has always been in food and food service. But a lot of the principles are the same- ie: organization, dedication, overseeing projects, etc. So I need some ideas on how can I make my resume less about the fundamentals of the food industry and more clear on the knowledge I have derived from it?
Could you play up the times you have had to use organization/calculations/etc.? It seems like food industry jobs require so much attention to detail and careful planning to get the right amount, at the right time in the right way. Also, it seems like in the food industry, you have to work really hard if something doesn't go as planned to pull something off that keeps your customers happy. I feel you probably have really good experience with quick thinking, attention to detail, and careful planning. I hope this is helpful, and best luck!

Hello. You want to feature the skills and qualifications you have without focusing so much on where/how you got them. I recommend a modified functional resume style that includes a simple work history incorporated somewhere where it won't interfere with your effort to convey your skills. If you would like me to provide specific feedback, I'd be happy to! Just pm me or contact me on fb.
I'm by no means a career or resume expert, but pollyjean's suggestion is good. Some employers frown upon the functional resume because they think you're trying to hide something, so maybe you could do a hybrid format. But you definitely should play up those transferable skills. Good luck to you!
