I only have pics of the bedroom, cause the living room gets no natural light and I haven't figured out the right way to correct the yellow cast of the electric light yet. But here is our room. The whole vibe is a little girlier than I'd wanted, but I had so many precious family pieces that I wanted to use that there was no way around it. We really need some sort of finishing behind the bed, but that's at the bottom of my list of projects... I've got some ideas for something kind of punchy and unexpected to counteract the girly vibe. I'll probably do some sort of painted trompe l'oeuil thing in a tone that picks up the brassy/antiqued gold I have scattered throughout.
The night table is actually a nice radiator cover that our landlords built over the unsightly old cast iron radiator.
That drawing on the left is one my dad picked up at an art sale in Baltimore 30 years ago... it's so beautiful, I should take a close-up shot so you can see it well.
detail of the mantelpiece, which is opposite the bed:
and some details of my antique dresser. The window moldings are trompe l'oeuil; there were no moldings so I just taped off 4" wide strips and ran over it with a high-gloss blueish white. The drawing was done by my mom and the blue jewelry box on the right was hers too.
this pic reminds me of moderne douphin - the pale blues and yellows, gold, creams - the colors remind me of some of Marie Antoinette's rooms in Versailles. the sketch it gives it a modern twist

I would never have thought of that, but you're right... not the style at all, but the pallette... look at my architecture nerd pics from the chateau in France!
ahhh i love it- i love the mixture of ornate with simple, old w/modern, space w/proximity and clusters. I would have a similar room if i had space for it for now, i'm squeezed in my 8 by 8 bedroom.
sidenote- but i'd been thinking for a while that we needed a "home style". i'm so glad its been started- i'll add when i have the chance and once our house is cleaned.

I thought I was getting a French vibe - the touches of rococo help as well (ornate gold embellishments) It looks like the vanity of a 1930's French artist's muse...

It's so lovely! I really love the color of your walls. (And I am always amazed when people live clutter-free because no matter what I do, I'm incapable of doing so.)

can i move in? (and then i can also raid your closet while i'm there) everything is so unique and interesting! i'd love to just hang out and inspect each little vase, box, and sketch.
I love it! It's so ... sweet. And modern and fresh and all that good stuff. LOVE the idea of creating moldings around the window by just using white paint... genius!
