ok, now I feel really inferior with my thanksgiving dinner... greendiamond? can we come to your place for thanksgiving? it's just me, my husband, and my dad
...kidding, of course
Don't feel inferior! I thought your plan was brilliant. We are eating out so no turkey & dressing for us...... I think I'll do a small turkey for just my husband & myself when we get back though.

i, personally, am not making a thing! i will be spending most of thanksgiving day flying back to the east coast. when i land, i'll be having dinner with my ex-boyfriend at his place. he's keeping the menu a secret, but i'm guessing we'll have all the basics - and i made sure to request a pumpkin pie! thankfully he's a good cook - and it's pretty nice to have a boy slave away in the kitchen all day for you!
My aunt is making the turkey and a few other things, and my mom is making the fish and veggie dishes.
I'm making pumpkin pie from a recipe I found on a blog called Cooking For Engineers. This year I bought some organic pumpkin from Trader Joe's.
I'm also making a quiche with red salmon, dill and cheddar cheese; I'm still hunting for a good basic recipe because I misplaced the book I initially found it in.
This year we are going to go to Kansas City for thanksgiving (probably going to the game), which means either a restaurant or maybe a relative that lives close by. I do think that I'll cook a traditional dinner on Saturday when we come back, mainly so we can have the leftovers
FP - Thanksgiving in KC at the Raphael hotel is a great choice - highly recommend if you are looking for a restaurant.
Also, here is a link to some other places that you could celebrate the holiday if your are looking for something more casual after the game...or if you don't want to deal with the madness that is the Plaza on Thanksgiving day due to the lighting...

Thanks! I hadn't even thought of those places, hopefully I can still get a reservation. We are sooo looking forward to the game, we got club level seats, which I'm very excited about. Are you going to be in KC for the holidays?
ETA: Ok, made reservations at Plaza III, good choice? The Raphael was all booked as was the Hotel Phillips Chophouse.
i just got back from thanksgiving grocery shopping at whole foods -- what a madhouse. my sister and i are splitting up the meal this year, so I'm making:
Herb Roasted all-natural whole foods Turkey with Shallot pan gravy
cornbread, andouille sausage, and sage stuffing
regular sage stuffing
carmelized shallot and sage mashed potatoes
maple roasted parsnips
roasted yams with coriander and citrus butter
butternut squash, leek, and apple gratin with cheddar crust
brussel sprouts with chestnuts, pancetta and parsley
turnip puree
popovers with sage butter
pumpkin pie
oh, and i almost forgot, my favorite part of the meal -- jello salad. i make it every year from my grandmother's recipe and i'm pretty much the only one who eats it, but i love it.
My sister is in charge of a green vegetable, salad, appetizers, and pecan pie.
It's actually on old, old, secret family receipe, and i'm not sure I feel comfortable sharing....wouldn't want it to get out...I'm sure you understand....
