judging by the fact that there's no topic on this yet, should i assume everyone was as disappointed as i was?
WHO KILLS EKO!?!?! okay, had to get that out. stupid writers...
i liked juliet's little movie trick, though, and i'm really hoping that jack kills ben during surgery...though knowing jack, he'll feel too badly to do it and let him live or something.
and WHAT is with all of the commercials? they'd show like 4 minutes of the show and then 8 minutes of commercials...i was hoping it was just the first episode but i guess it's going to keep on this way.

I read an article today about Ecko. The actor asked to be written out. Both of his parents passed away last year and he has had a hard time with it. He said wanted to move back to London to pursue directing movies again.

i'm soooo upset about eko. and they had to torture him for 2 episodes before he dies? he got blown up, eaten by a polar bear, grabbed by a black smoke hand, etc! wtf.
I was upset about Ecko dying. He was arrested a couple of months ago and I told fh, great, now he'll be kicked off the show. The charges were dropped but he was killed off anyway! I didn't read about his parents dying:(
Hmm, I'm still not trusting Juliet. In To Kill a Mockingbird, the man you think is evil the whole time is not, it is actually the person trying to get him killed. As Jack McFarland would say, Boo Radley Hoo.

ITA. I still think there's some sort of psychological experiment happening there. It's been awhile since I took psych, but wasn't there some famous study where they tempted people into hurting others?

I'm so pissed that Eko was killed off. I thought he was one of the most interesting characters. In fact, I really loved that episode (up until the end) because he was featured in it so much.
I don't trust Juliette at all. I'm worried that the movie itself was another attempt to trick Jack. Although, it does seem clear that she is disenchanted w/ Benry and his role with the group.
It also seems totally random to me that they are now bringing in the brazilian guy and his girl as bigger characters.
As soon as the episode started and I saw that it was going to be Eko's backstory, I knew he'd be killed. I feel like they pretty much wrapped up his whole character in the episode, so there wasn't much more to learn about him. But I always liked his interactions with Locke, so I'll miss that. The one thing they didn't resolve, unless I missed something, is why was Eko in Australia in the first place? I wonder if we'll ever get to find out.
I'm not sure what to think about Juliet and the movie she showed Jack. I can see how it could be another trick, but I don't know--I just don't think that's where the writers are going with this. I could be totally wrong though. But we do know that Rousseau's daughter isn't happy with her situation and maybe there really is a group of people that are ready for a change in leadership.
I'm dying to know who the scary guy with the eye patch is. He scared the bejesus out of me!

They have to introduce new people so they can kill them off. Think about it...every new character from the plane crash other than the original cast has been killed off with the exception of Bernard (whom we haven't really seen this season). Arzt, Lizzie, Ana Lucia (no love lost on that one though), Eko...

Oh, I get that they just want to add new characters and I always expected that at some point they'd want to address some of the other crash survivors. But IMO, it was poorly done this time.
it was pretty lame the way they worked the new two in..."you're always saying we're not included, let's go!" uh..yeah.
alliegurl - i doubt we'll find out what happened to walt and michael after they left on the boat, at least not for a (looong) while.
no idea who eyepatch is, but i think it adds to the argument that there is still some kind of experiment/observation going on in the hatches.
and i don't necessarily think that juliet is any less dangerous than ben, but it can't hurt to get his nutso ass out of the way. good point about to kill a mockingbird, though, fairlight - you may be right.

Here is another thought for everyone to chew on...
Haven't we all heard of the magical healing powers of the island for those people with chronic illness; Rose's cancer, Locke's paralysis...if the island does indeed heal these ailments why isn't Benry's cancer going away? The only thought that I am having is that they don't really stay on their island (per the chat Benry and Sawyer had last episode). Or maybe you have to be a certain kind of person for the magic to work...
Thoughts?

Maybe lifelong exposure to the power of the island can actually cause illness, in the same way that exposure to radiation can both cause and cure cancer? Or maybe the islands don't heal the ailments at all, just take the pain/symtoms associated with them away?
