Favorite Charitable Gifts?
Permalink Closed

The "what are you asking for for Christmas?" post got me thinking about what I am going to be giving for Christmas! Something that I'm going to try to do this year for Christmas as well as for upcoming birthdays is to give people great presents that also somehow have a charitable aspect. I sometimes get frustrated with how commercial Christmas has become, and so finding something that is a great gift, but also helps make the world a better place makes me happier to be parting with my money.

These are some of my ideas that I've found so far. What are your favorite charity items to give and/or receive?

1. Kiehl's -- I have always love love loved Kiehl's products and even more so after finding out that they have a strong philanthropic commitment to some of my favorite causes. So this is what I'm going to give as bath and body gifts.

2. Then again, I also was given this Philosophy 3-in-1 shower for a cure and I love it, so I might get some of them, too.

3. Gap Project Red -- some of this stuff looks really cute

4. For my Christmas cards, I'm thinking of buying from here: Good Cause Greetings.

5. The Red Cross Store has the cutest vintage T-shirts that I think would be perfect for my teenage step-brothers. I can't paste a picture for some reason, but they are so fun, I think.

6. And for a couple of older family members / family friends who are the sort of people that already have everything, I'm going to give chickens, pigs, geese, etc. in their honor to poor farmers in the developing world through my favorite charity, Heifer International.

What are your favorite charitable gifts?! I am hoping to find great items for everyone on my list!

I have a pack of younger cousins that get more toys then they need for christmas so I donate money to the humane society in their name and then wrap up the thank you letter and give it to them.

i used to live near a UNICEF store and always bought my xmas cards there.  in fact, everything at the UNICEF store benefitted the organization and was all super cute and unique.

Ten Thousand Villages is similar, fair trade goods from artisans throughout the world.  not exactly a charity, but still does some good.
