This, to me, was the first really good episode of the season. It was nice to be back with the regular survivors and see more of the original characters -- did you notice they worked in the hot new actor from Brazil at the end?

Anyway, some observations: poor Locke, always getting duped by people and his own self delusion. It would seem the only thing he believes in that is actually true is the island.

I can't remember where Geronimo Jackson came into play last season -- a song or a book in the hatch? But here it is again in tonight's episode.

The whole Jack vs. Locke thing from last season -- now Locke will have to be the leader and save Jack. Can he do it? Maybe that's the whole mission this season.

Did the hatch implosion alter the time/space continuum? How did Desmond see Locke's speech before anyone else?

I read some speculation at the Entertainment Weekly site that the Others, being oh so baby conscious, may be gearing up to have Sawyer impregnate Kate. One thought I read: when Henry Gale told Kate she'd have a difficult two weeks, maybe they knew her menstrual cycle and when she'd be able to conceive a child. And then the previews for next week sure look like a psychological psyche out with getting an under duress Kate to admit she loves Sawyer, while apparently Jack is listening in?

All in all, I loved this episode.

I think that the cop that Locke picked up and brought back to his commune will bring in some back up for a drug bust.  I think that Locke will get shot, and that's how he ended up in a wheelchair. I really like Locke, I hope he rescues everyone, he needs to have something good happen to him.

I think they're trying to get Kate pregnant, too. The younger Others (Benry, Juliet, etc.) must be sterile.  Juliet's mother, Amelia, lives on the island, so maybe it's only the second generation that can't have kids.

What were they doing to Sawyer with that needle in the preview for next week?! Ew!

scarlett, I think that Desmond saw the future when he was blown out of the hatch.  I don't think the timeline was altered.  Locke lost his voice, Eko got kidnapped by a bear (and maybe saw some of the future himself, if what he said to Locke about being a hunter wasn't Locke's hallucination), and Desmond lost his clothes (yay!) and saw the future.

Oh yes, Desmond looked very nice, all naked and disoriented in the jungle! I liked that.

Good idea about Locke getting paralyzed because of a gun shot. He wants so much to be a leader and to help people -- I'd like to see something good happen to him.
