i don't normally shop for household items (cookware, cleaning items, etc.) i went to Macy's to look around to see what was out there for when we go to register.... i was completely overwhelmed!
what are some of your favorite items around the house?
what are some things you thought you just had to have and never used?
what are some things you never wanted and now use all the time?
My favorite things are our KitchenAid mixer, my 8" chef's knife, and my cast iron pan.
We don't use the KitchenAid every day, but it's a fantastic appliance. It's great at everything.
DH helped me pick out a good chef's knife and it's the best thing ever. If you take the time to get a good one that's balanced in your hand and feels good to you, it'll make chopping a gazillion times easier.
And cast iron is really where it's at in my opinion for pans. It browns things so beautifully and once they're well seasoned, they're practically as non-stick as Teflon.
The new George Foreman grill with removable plates (you can put them in the dishwasher)
I really want a slow cooker, but I have decided that I am holding off until I get married to register for a really nice one
This may seem silly, but we have a milkshake maker (like they use at the store) and we love it. The BF is seriously into milkshakes and this is way handier than a blender

Not silly to me! We have one too, because my BF is totally into milkshakes too! ITA w/you - it's way better than the blender.
The rest of mine are:
* Toaster Oven - this thing is so handy. It's really nice when you want to reheat something that you want to be crispy. It cooks way faster than the oven too.
* Nice bread knife - this thing cuts through everything!
* My Slow Cooker - best gift ever. I'm amazed at all the things I can cook in it, and it's so nice to start something when I leave for work, and when I come home it's done!
* Tassimo Latte/Cappucino/Coffee/Hot Chocolate/Tea Maker - we got this for our bdays last year and it's awesome. It makes a single cup w/pods that you buy. It's so great and has saved me lots of $$.
* George Foreman grill - really comes in handy when you're in a pinch and can't get outside to grill.
*Toaster oven. I use it a lot more than I thought I would. Very good when you just need to bake a snack so you don't have to heat up a big oven.
*Turbo cooker. It's one of those as seen on tv things. I use it all the time. Very good for cooking food without the need to use oil for nice and moist food. Makes the best cupcakes while cooking the cherry topping at the same time!
*I have one of those things that is similar to a food processor but just has the blades and you turn the handle yourself to chop. Very nice and lightweight.
Dissapointed: Le Crueset stockpot (takes forever to boil water, FOREVER!), Oster blender ( I do use it a lot, but it doesn't chop ice well and when I use it for hummus or to puree soups I have to constantly stop it and scrap the bottom).
This is the best pie plate ever. I loved it so much that I bought a second. Actually anything from the Emile Henry line rocks.
Emile Henry Auberge Pie Dish, 9"
Riedel Wine Glasses
Pinot Noir, Champagne, Merlot and Chardonnay Glasses
We love them!!
Riedel Water Glasses
Henckels Professional Knives
Our china and silver-- we don't use it that much but I am glad we have it all
Asparagus Plate
Four crazy things we registered for and never use
Fondue Pot
and Williams Sonoma Fondue Plates
Artichokes steamer
A huge 15 gallon pot-- for lobsters or a huge stew---(i don't know what I was thinking or how many kids I thought we were going to have?)
Other than that, everything has been a good purchase!
Registering can be overwhelming and you can get carried away with the scanner but the good thing is everything can be returned or exchanged so just have fun.
