Hi ladies... my hands need your help. I've always kept my nails pretty short and they have always been pretty healthy and strong, as long as they weren't too long. I also almost never painted them, unless I got a manicure.
recently i've been painting them, and now they are a mess! they break/chip, even when short, i get hang nails, and the skin on my fingers right at the top of the nail is all torn up and dry. But i'm using good nailpolish (mac and OPI) and the same remover as always (revlon extra moisturizing)... why is this happening?! what can i do to prevent it?
please help me make my hands pretty again! Thank you!
Maybe since you are changing your polish more often it's the remover that's drying you out so. Even though it's "extra moisturizing" it's still a chemical that will dry you out.
Do you have any cuticle oil? OPI and Solar make nice ones. I bought several of the mini sized solar and I stash them everywhere, and paint it on often. It really helps my cuticles and the skin around my nails.
When I was a cashier I was constantly washing my hands. My cuticles were looking terrible until I found this:
It is True Blue Spa cuticle treatment from Bath & Body Works. It is so fabulous! The stuff made my cuticles look and feel nice again. Plus I rubbed the stuff on my nails and it made them nice and shiny. Maybe this could take care of your problem.
You definitely need to use a good nail strengthener. I swear by Mystic Nails. It is super cheap ($2.99) and it does amazing things to your nails. I can't find it in stores so I buy it here http://www.harmondiscount.com/shopping.asp.
Good luck!!

I would definitely take a break from the nail polish for a few weeks. A few years ago I got into a phase where I painted my nails every week and after a couple months, one of my fingernails fell completely off the nail bed (I didn't use any complicated instruments or anything, just a file and polish- no orange sticks or anything like that near my cuticle).
I would use all the treatments the other women suggested and use a file/buff/polish stick to keep 'em looking shiney, while they get some rest.
