Just in case any of you girls have been considering this, I had my first laser hair removal treatment about a month ago and I wanted to share my experience with it.
Just some background info: I'd been wanting to have this done on my underarms for a couple of years now because they're so sensitive to shaving. I have always wanted to be able to throw on a tank top every day in the summer and not even have to think about shaving at all. So finally I decided to just go for it!
The laser technician told me that most people need an average of 5 sessions for all of the hair to go away completely and permanently. She said it's because hair grows in cycles, so the first treatment would kill the first cycle of hair, and by the 4th or 5th treatment, there'd only be a couple of hairs left, total.
The laser really doesn't hurt. The tool blows cold air onto your skin which prevents you from feeling 99.9% of the lasering. Twice I felt something like a really mild rubber band snap, but it didn't bother me at all. It was super quick -- the whole thing took about 5 minutes -- and the sessions are scheduled 6 weeks apart.
The best thing is that even though I've only had one session, about 80% of the hair is already completely gone. It's just really awesome when something actually works the way it promises to -- and I couldn't be happier. I know it varies depending on your location but it's costing me $120 per session. I think it is totally worth every penny!
ITA. I did it last year on my bikini and it's been amazing. It was pricey but after I figured out what I was paying on waxing... it definitely is an investment that ends up being worth it.
Ok, I'll definitely post an update in a few months. The results have been so dramatic after only 1 session, I really can't imagine needing all 5 -- but we'll see!
while laser hair removal can be beneficial to some- an electrologist i know said she sees lots of horror stories where women get laser removal to remove a few hairs on their face and it stimulates hair growth and she ends up having to remove a full beard. Or people that pay thousands of dollars on expensive laser removal and everything comes back a couple of years later. I've heard this from other people too. So just throwing that out there as a warning- laser hair removal isn't technically allowed to say that they provide permanent hair removal- but electrolysis is. It really hasn't been around long enough.

Thanks for the heads-up! I'll let you guys know if I suddenly start sprouting tons of hair
Twinkle, please let us know if you ever become unhappy w/ your results!

I was advised not to wear it on the day before, and on the day of, the actual lasering treatments -- so 2 days every 6-8 weeks. The rest of the time, it's totally fine. They tell you to use a little baby powder instead on those 2 days.

Did that work okay for you? I am not a super sweaty person, but I am REALLY paranoid about body odor.

Farrah, I was surprised to find that it worked just fine.... I was a little paranoid so I also dabbed a little bit of perfume near, but not on, my underarms. I didn't have any problems. It probably also helped that it wasn't 90 degrees that day
