I know I'm about 2 years late on the whole bangs trend, but I've never been able to make the move. I have thin, straight hair and usually wear it in a center part. Anyone have any suggestions on how long to cut them, if you can still pull your hair up, etc?

I have swoopy bangs, but I don't think it would work as well if I didn't part my hair off center. Could you try that?
I usually have my hair dresser cut them just too short to push back behind my ear. I can't lie, it does get supremely annoying sometimes because I can't get them out of my eyes. I have bobby pins on hand at all times and when I'm wearing my glasses they hold the hair up. But obviously I like it enough to keep the style
I personally can't put my hair up just because it's jjuuusssttt too short to do that anyway, but if the rest of my hair was longer I don't think it'd be a problem because of the bangs. Of course, if they don't go behind your ear you'll have to pin them up or something if you're exercising or whatever and don't want them in your face.

Fwiw, I have thin hair, and bangs usually just don't work for me. They get all peicey, they separate, they make my hair look waaaay thinner than it is. And they look funny from the side, because you can see where they're parted away from the rest of my hair... I o think it would work if I had shorter hair (a la Reese Witherspoon). Or maybe even a lot of layers. (but that also tends to make my ahri look thin so back to the first problem...)
I have thin/fine, straight hair too, and I love my bangs. It took me a couple of cuts to get them right, though. I kept telling my old stylist that I needed them to be thicker, because every time she cut them, they were so wispy that they didn't look like real bangs. My real stylist (who has fine hair herself) cut thicker, blunt bangs and now they totally work. I agree with ttara, though - if you want them sideswept, you need to do a side part.
Mine hit right at the bottom of the eyebrow, and it's a perfect length for me, because I can wear them to the side or in front.

I also have side swept bangs and I love them. They make ponytails and headbands look way cuter. I think you definitely have to part your hair to the side, though. I've tried to part my hair in the middle and still have the side swept bang, and it never really looked right.
I brought a picture with me when I went to get mine cut for the first time - I didn't want there to be any kind of misunderstanding to what length I wanted. I'm always terrified of walking away with super short bangs.
