When To Start on Nusery?
Permalink Closed

We're thinking of getting started soon.  Do you think it's too early?  Some people keep telling us it's too soon.  So, when's the "right" time??  I mean, I want to get it done while I feel good.  Plus I'd love to have it completely finished by the holidays.   November & December are CRAZY! And the baby is due in February so I'm not willing to wait until January to try and get started. It'll take several weeks.  We've got to remove carpet, put in hardwood, paint the walls, have the murals painted, and buy/put together all the furniture.

i don't think it's too early at all. it sounds like you've got a lot of prep work with the flooring which will take a while. by all means BEGIN! plus once you get started you'll realize you need this or that and you don't want to be running around when you're 9 months pregnant finishing the nursery!

do it! get started! and post pics! (on mamastyle.com of course)

I don't think it's too early to start.  I plan on starting whenever I find out the sex, so about 20 weeks.  But especially since you're doing a gender neutral nursery, I'd go ahead and get started (especially on the floors).

I don't think it's too early at all. I was due Feb 8th last year so I am assuming you are just about out of or out of your 1st trimester (when the miscarraige rate drops). One things for sure, you don't want to me like me trying to paint a closet at 9 months pregnant. I couldn't get around my belly to get near the floor! That was a sight to behold... Ahh, the joys of nesting!

I don't think it's too early to start, either.  Best do it now while you're feeling decent and are still able to move around fairly easily.  I say get all the prep, painting, and furniture out of the way now.  Then you can worry about the details - stocking the changing table, washing and folding all the clothes, etc after the holidays because that's stuff you can do up until the bitter end !

Well, if it were me, I'd probably start, oh, the day after I knew I was having a baby. I think a kid's room would be a blast to decorate, esp. before they're old enough to have opinions on what they want.

I was in Bombay Co. the other day and had to remind myself that I should not want a kid just so I can decorate its room.

Anyway, short answer: go for it!

well I'm of the same mindset as you..
I want to do it and get it done while I still feel good. Quite honestly I want to have all my furniture stuff ordered by the end of this month and hopefully have everything in the room by mid October...

I don't want to be messing around with all of this in my 3rd trimester..

ITA with everyone else. Especially if you don't know exactly what you want.

I think for my first son, we finished the nursery about 2 months before the due date, any later and I wouldn't have been able to help paint as comfortably with the big belly.

ditto. I have to keep forcing myself to not buy things and I'm not even pregnant yet!

I agree to start when you feel ok to do it. Nov. and Dec. are crazy months by themselves. In january you may not feel up to it with being so far along besides recouperating from the holidays. The flooring is a big job in itself besides the murals. I'm due in Feb as well. We are buying a house (got about 2 weeks left). As soon as it's all closed and everything is moved, I'll have DH start setting stuff up in there. Luckily it's already painted with good flooring so it won't be too much work. I just want to have the main stuff ready. I do have a few things but I've been trying not to get much until after we move.....it's been reaaaallly hard.

Be sure and post up pics of it for us!

I think I would be so excited that I'd do it as soon as I got my ideas down.  But, I bet there are a lot of choices regarding the right sort of furniture and it must take a while to get all your ideas straight.  It sounds like fun!
