I'm debating what to do right now with my closet. The past few years I have just kept all my summer clothes hanging - but I'm seriously starting to run out of room and I was considering boxing everything up. Does anyone else do this?
My closet is small, and all my closets always have been. I've been boxing up things since I was a kid. Even if my closet wasn't small, I'd probably still box things up just to make it easier to navigate throughout the winter. I don't usually box up a whole lot of summer clothes, though. Obviously things like minis, sundresses and sandals, I won't be able to wear all winter. But I actually keep wearing a lot of my clothes throughout the winter, just layered up. I have a lot more winter clothes to pack away in the spring.

No, but I live in Florida so I really don't have separate clothes for summer and winter. Could you just pack up stuff you KNOW you won't wear and put everything else in the back of your closet?

Though I live somewhere now with seasons, I still keep all of my summer stuff hanging up. I am just way too lazy to actually box or pack my not in season clothes. My closets are running out of room though, so it will be considered, but is unlikely to happen. I think that theotherjess's suggestion is good, but I just know doing any of these things isnt realistic for me.
I store mine in large plastic Rubbermaid containers in the spare closet. But, they're not put away for years at a time, just for two seasons if I was putting them away for longer, I'd probably invest in some nice canvas boxes so the air would circulate. I always put cedar blocks in with my clothes to ward off moths. If you do box your summer clothes up, don't use mothballs. They reek, are toxic, and the smell is *impossible* to get rid of when you unpack your clothes.
Yeah, same here, since I live in Texas, we really don't have Winters, so..... Some sweaters I have put away, in those HUGE Rubbermaid containers, I may need to do that again (too many shirts that I haven't worn in forever).

I don't have very much clothing (yeah, I know. ) and a relatively large closet all to myself so I don't need to put anything away.
Also, since I live in CA, I pretty much wear the same things year-round. Like kittenheels, I too have the set of sweaters/wool jackets/boots that only make an appaearance between October/November and April.
I don't pack up much summer clothes. With the exception of a few really summery dresses and skirts, most of my summer clothes can be layered and worn year round since our weather is so mild.
However, I do clean and store my sweaters during the Spring and Summer since they take up a lot of space.
All of my off season clothes/shoes go in the guest room closet. I do a major closet switch two times a year and a mini one inbetween, like transitional wear. My sweaters always stay in my armoire.
