I have a decent sized walk-in closet filled w/clothes, and I am constantly moving things around and trying to organize it, but its always a disaster. What things do you use to keep things neat and orderly? I feel like I am wearing the same outfits over and over because things are so disorganized and mornings before work are always rushed because I never can find items. If anyone has a super organized closet and wants to share pics, it would be so appreciated...any organizational ideas would be great also. My dream is to have a "gourmet" California Closet system installed. My husband says if we did that I'd never come out!
I still haven't touched my closet since I moved into my house 10 months ago! Mostly because I want it to turn out perfect and not sure how I want the layout. Wouldn't want to put holes in the walls and then change my mind. So I have to run back and fourth between that closet and to the other one where I have my hanging clothes.
Anyways, currently I use this white mug stand that is very useful for hanging necklaces and bracelets. Bracelets on the lower rungs, necklaces on the tops. Easier to see instead of them getting all tangled in my small jewelry box.
For now I use those closetmaid cubbies for folded clothes that I don't have room for in my dresser. I have 4 three hole cubbies set side by side so on top of them is table space for hats and purses.
For shoes I have this zippered shoe stand. It only holds 12 shoes though so the rest just have to be lined along the wall.
I bought clear plastic shoe boxes from the Container store (online) They are uniform in size so they stack and I can finally see all my shoes since they are not in a pile on the floor. I can fit more shoes in my closet and see them vs. using racks or shelves (they always ended up in a pile even on shelves). I have also vowed since I don't have room for more boxes that I will have to get rid of a pair if I buy another (I have way too many shoes as it is) The clothes rack is another story...
I use a lot of orgainizing things in my closet. I looked into California Closets for myself, but I felt that everything was a little too pre-planned. I wanted a specific design for my walk in closet, and for what I'd be paying...I wanted to be able to create it myself.
For jewelry and small accessories like pins, I use those cute utensil organizers. You can get them anywhere and they fit perfectly into drawers. For pocketbooks, I use a shelf I have to display a lot of them, and the ones that I use daily I put on a coat rack so that they all hang down nicely. I found these great long bookshelves that I put all my shoes on, boots will fit on the top shelf perfectly. I like to be able to see all of my belts and scarves, so I installed hooks into one of the walls and hang them all. I change my closet organization all the time (whenever I buy something that I need to change it for) so I like buying things that aren't permanent.
I also use a flip fold thingy to perfectly fold shirts. Looks so neat that way.
For the stuff I have hanging up, I organize by color: green, blue, purple, pink, red, orange, yellow, cream, tan, brown, white, black. Pants, skirts, and coats get their own section though. This system makes it look very organized and you can find items by what color you want to wear that day!
As in the other closet thread, I also use wood hangers to hang my clothes. The clothes hang better and you can turn the hook if you hung it on the wrong way.
