Has anyone ever used them before? My computer has a big problem. I can't get it to turn on. I have a dell and know I could probably call the help line, but if I can't even turn the damn thing on, they will probably have to send someone out, so I am wondering which would be cheaper. Since I have a Dell, does someone have to come out at no charge?? Help!!! Thanks.

When mine went on the fritz last winter I called Geek Squad, only to be told I would have to haul my tower into the nearest Best Buy, leave it there for at least 3 days, and pay $50 to even find out what was wrong with it!

I ended up using an independant computer repair person.  We needed a new power supply, and we had some pretty serious virus crap going on that had disabled our virus software.  He installed new virus software, new spyware software, a firewall, and replaced the power supply for about $80.

Luv2Shop, I actually work for Best Buy. The Geek Squad guys are great, but I would check to see if you are under warranty with Dell, first. If you call the Geek Squad they will run a diagnositic check for $159, thats if they go to your home. If you take it to the Best Buy Geek Squad Precinct it will be $69. Also it can take anywhere from 3 to 7 business days to take a look at the store. I am assuming you need the computer fixed in a jiffy. So email Dell first and see what they can offer to you first. If you have any more questions feel free to PM.

I might be a little late on this but I have a friend who had the same problem and the power supply needed to be replaced.

Our computer repair guy said power supply is a pretty common issue - they put the bare minimum in when they manufacture them, and running 4 or 5 hardrives off those tiny power supplies burns them out right quick.  It's a pretty cheap fix - Geek Squad said it sounded like my mother board needed to be replaced, and I'm afraid they still might have said that it did if they hadn't been able to figure out it was the power supply .....

I agree w/ Elle and luckyclover.  I had a power supply issue about a year ago (computer wouldn't turn on).  I had it replaced by a local guy for less than $100, and he cleaned up a bunch of spyware crap that was on my computer.
