So, here I sit at 5:45 when I usually get out of work at 5. Why you ask? Because I came in and hour late yesterday after being at a wedding really late on Sunday night. I called and everything, so I didn't just saunter in whenever I felt like it. Well, I get an email from my boss today asking when I am going to "make up" my time. This from a woman who comes in and leaves at any hour of the day she feels fit, and goes to the salon and to personal lunches during work hours. She is the head honcho and everything, but still, observe the following and tell me how you would feel:
Remember my rants about a moronic airhead receptionist that was hired when I moved into the graphic design position with NO PAY INCREASE who was offered the SAME SALARY I was getting????? Well, she was canned right on her sorry no good ass. But, guess what that means???? I am now the Receptionist AND Graphic Designer!!! I am doing BOTH jobs with absolutely NO reward. I see no one racing to hire another recep. either. Also, I am supposed to have my review this month which to no surprise by me, has not been mentioned yet. So, while I am doing the job of 2 COMPLETELY different employees, my boss feels the need to SUCK every last minute I should be here out of me!!!! I want to kill someone. I want to kill THE MAN!!! Corporate America BLOWS!!!!
If it make you feel any better I'm not allowed to leave until my boss come and tells me I can. Every day. And I have no advance warning as to when it may be. Some days its 4, some days it's 7... and it has absolutely nothing to do with how much work there is to do. I've sat from 9-7 without a SINGLE assignment- why can't I just leave at 5?! It makes me feel like I'm about 2 years old. And no, in our office there is no such thing as comp time. I work 40 hours per week- no matter what.
I thought you were paid hourly ...? If you are, why should she care, as long as you're taking care of things (which I'm sure you are to the best of your ability even while working TWO positions)?
Sorry Luv2shop .

Agreed. Corporate America is tough. I think most people do the job of more than one person- I know I do. So, yeah, I feel your pain.
ETA: Remember when we used to IM all the time from work? *SIGH* I wish I could actually access AIM at work, but it's blocked. Otherwise, I'd take minibreaks and IM you!
Corporate America totally sucks. I agree with you all. I loathe my current job. And I live in such a small town it's hard to find a new one. I'm torn...I love my BF but hate my current situation. I k now there's something somewhere. I want to work from home, as an editor. How the hell can I do that? I could read books (fiction) all day and I'd love it. Ah, dreams, right.

Elle, I get paid salary, but still.
ILoveChoo - I CANNOT believe that you have to wait till your boss comes to tell you you can leave. That is pure nonsense.
