the military surplus stores or thrift stores? i love military surplus. they have great stuff in their. that is where i buy my basic white, black, gray t-shirts. they are sturdy and dirt cheap. i love their canvas bags and the military sweaters with the satin patches on the shoulders.
i also love thrift shops. every once in a while, i will set aside a day just for thrift shops. and i love going to thrift shops when i go to my aunts house or in LA. they allways have great clothes that old person had socked away in their closet forever or stuff spoiled little rich kids get rid of. i love it.
I used to shop it up at thrift stores for clothes. I was on a big vintage reconstruction kick last year. Nowadays, I check out thrifts for home accessories and furniture. I like to call my living room style "cheap shabby chic" because I've bought nearly every thing in it from thrift. There's a large military surplus store about twenty minutes from my house that I've been meaning to go to for a while now. Maybe I'll do that this weekend. I'd love to find some cool accessories. Plus, I'm a sucker for those fatigue hats.

I love thrifting! Seems like so much of the stuff that's in stores now is pretty generic, and if it's not generic then I usually can't afford it. Thrifting works especially well in seasons where older styles are being 'revived', because all the stuff from when the trend originally went 'round is at the thrift!
Did I mention I love thrifting?

I really like going thrifting, but I never really find anything that great there, except once I found a vintage Oscar de la Renta bag in good condition. Except, it's a really small clutch so there's not much I can use it for except like...carrying things inside another bag.
My best friend is much better than me though. We always go together and she manages to make a lot of things look really cute, while I just look weird. I have found some cool jewelry thrifting though.
I never really can find anything good at thrift stores. There is a store by my house that has pretty neat old clothing, like from the 40s and 50s. But it's just as expensive, if not more, than regular stores (probably because they know how good their stuff is), so I only go every once in a while. I wish I was good at thrifting; I'm just not

not really... I don't even know if there's a surplus store here, and I never find much at thrift stores, because I live in Old People Land. (and they're not the fashionable kind of old people.)

I like thrifting. If nothing else, I feel like I can always find good belts at thrift stores. There's a chain of vintage stores here called Dechoes that has really cute clothes. I love to shop there because they buy your stuff, meaning they will pick through ugly clothes and only buy the cute stuff. Some of their stuff is recent, some still has tags, some is vintage, and some of it is handmade. I can always come out of there with something, even if it's just a necklace.

i allways seem to have the best luck with the little hole in the wall stores. i walked into one through the back where they had all of the items that weren't on the shelves yet, and peeked into a box that had 4 pairs of vintage charles david pumps in great condition. i snagged all 4 pairs for $15.
thrift stores in rich or ritzy neighborhoods are pretty good too.
I never have luck thrifting. I am a really hard size to fit and vintage clothes just were not made for my frame. And I don't have an eye for finding good peices. And...well, I know this is kind of snotty... but the thought of wearing strangers old clothes kind of grosses me out. Sorry but it does.
However, we do have an excellent surplus store that the bf and I love and it has the coolest stuff. http://www.crownsurplus.com
I just started to go to thrift shops a few weeks ago. I never find anything good for me, but I find great clothes from Gymboree and Gap for my baby girl. Once I was in line and someone ahead of me had a pair of awesome lamps. I wonder if the people who work there get to have first dibs before the stuff is put out for the public.
I've never shopped at military surplus stores, but thrift stores - I go about 3 - 4x's a week. I love them, you can find some really nice things there, even name brand, for a dirt cheap price. Matter of fact, I'll probably go thrifting today, after work, and maybe some this weekend.
