fairlight's weekday shopping post reminded me that I have been meaning to ask this. Is anyone else excited about vampy colors for fall? And can someone explain Chanel's Black Satin to me? Is it just black polish? Or is there something different about it? I currently really love OPI's Lincoln Park After Dark and Revlon Vixen (which is basically Chanel Vamp). Would I like Black Satin?

YOU MUST BUY IT. I bought a cheapie black one just to see how I liked the effect. The boy thought it was about the sexiest thing ever lol. I have a feminine style, so I think it is a great contrast. I keep my nails very short so to me it looks modern, not goth.
Black Satin = black polish. I love hte effect, but my current line of work causes me to get so many papercuts and nail breakges that it would be silly to wear it. I it though...I'm still secretly a 15 year old goth-lite who wore leather collars and chains with crazy eye makeup.
fairlight: I bet you look awesome with it on...very cool and unexpected.
:halleybird wrote: so what's the difference between Black Satin and other black nailpolishes? Just better formula, or is the color different?
Well I'm going to admit upfront, I'm a sucker for packaging(chic little Chanel bottle) and anything that says limited edition That being said, the Chanel has sparkle in it, so it isn't a flat black color. Plus, the cheapie polish has been chipping off within hours of applying. I'm hoping for $18 the Chanel stays on a couple of days.
I love the one fairlight got - but it is all sold out in LA. I'm also loving super short tomato red nails - not super vampy - but super cute and punchy.
i have cheapie wet and wild black- is there any other ones that are better quality that aren't $18 (black, not dark red, and preferably no sparkles...)? i like black nails.

that's what I was wondering. TIA!

Me three! Also, does anyone know where I can find Chanel's Black Satin? I tried my local Marshall Field's in my smallish town in WI, and they didn't have any left! I'm dying to get it! I've looked at Nordies, Saks, Chanel.com, Gloss. I don't want to resort to ebay, but I may have to.

I ran into the same problem with price vs. if it's any better than cheaper versions. So what I did was while I'm waiting until the new Chanel color to become available, I bought China Glaze's version of black polish. It's much cheaper than the Chanel one, and when I wear it (about two coats and clear) it lasts for a week without chipping. It is really great quality, and better than the other drugstore ones I have tried. Here is a pic- http://www.beautydiary.net/Article3.htm
Fairywings, can I ask where you're going to buy the Chanel BS np? I was under the impression that it's sold out everywhere.
Last night at Walmart I bought two bottles of vampy polish by Rimmel, Celebrity Bash and Torrid, in case anyone's interested. Speaking of vampy polishes, does anyone know if Chanel's Vamp is different than Chanel's Rouge Noir?

It just arrived! It is $18 in stores and running around $30 on Ebay. Here is my review comparing it to Wet & Wild Black Creme(on sale for $.75)
Packaging: Well hands down the Chanel, and you can see that it has a silver shimmer to the formula when held up to the light.
Color: Chanel Black Satin is just as the name says, it has a soft black color with a satiny finish. Think the sheen on black silk sheets(Say that 10x fast) It makes the Wet & Wild look like the color of a Hefty trash bag-very black and plasticky in finish.
Texture: The Chanel went on very smoothly while the W&W was difficult to apply and wanted to seep over the edges of the nail. I think the darker color makes any mistakes more apparent.
Overall, if you are just wanting to enjoy the trend this season, the W&W will be fine. If you can afford the splurge, go with the Chanel. It just has the cool decadent rock star factor.

is black onyx part of the new 25th anniversary fall collection? if so, i can check it out for you tomorrow and post a review.
my fave is from their Chicago collection last fall (was that just last fall?) called Lincoln Park After Dark.
I was puttering around the drugstore this morning and picked up to cheap-o vampy polishes. Here's my review...
Rimmel Lasting Finish w/ Lycra in Black Satin- $2- Your typical cheap-o black nail polish. The color is kind of flat, no sparkle or anything and goes on kind of grey at first. You need multiple coats to get a good black black. But I think with the right application and a really glossy topcoat could be really pretty.
Cover Girl Continuous color in Rouge Vamp- $3- so so so pretty. Its a dark berry red, like black raspberry. It looks good even with just one sloppy coat I have applied so far. Its not black but its very pretty, film noir berry.
My favorite is one I have been using for months now (since Gwen Stephani's "What you waiting for" video came out with her dark nails) I believe is Maybelline (I will check when I get home) its a dark dark brown mahogany color, almost black but a little more special. EAT: its Maybelline Express Finish in Vintage Burgundy. But its not really burgundy at all, its a true dark brown.
