Dressing around figure flaws
Permalink Closed

Do you have a "figure flaw" you have to dress around?   For me, my biggest problem is being short-waisted.  No matter what size I am, I still have problems because I'm short waisted and I have to find clothes that flatter because of this before anything else.  It is so annoying!  What's your figure flaw?

The girls. They interfere with some shirt styles. Plus the shirt can sometimes be too baggy elsewhere if they fit the girls.

Also the butt/hips area. I get a big gap in the back of my pants because my waist is narrower than my butt/hips.

Do my big/wide size 11 feet count? I would like to chop off my toes sometimes so shoes would fit.

Fatty inner thighs - they bug the hell out of me and make it impossible to buy jeans/pants that fit me the right way.

Long torso--makes it impossible to find a one piece bathing suit (which I don't normally wear but needed one this summer)

No butt-- some skirts make my butt look nonexistant and lots of jeans smush it down...not attractive!

Ditto!!!

And also I am with you Zeitgeist4 on the big feet. I wear a size 10, 10 and a half or even 11 and most of the time I can find shoes but it seems like they are the ugly leftovers!!

I hear you, Z4. That is the biggest problem I have. I have broad shoulders and a decent-sized chest, and finding tops that fit the upper part of my torso nearly always means that they don't come in enough at the waist.

I am short waisted too. So finding things that actually hit at *my* hip line, rather than being too long - especially with all the long, layering tops around lately, is difficult.

Definitely my butt/hips/thighs area. I'm constantly having difficulty finding pants that fit.

My feet are problematic, too. I don't mind the size (I'm a 10) because I'm pretty tall, but I've bought too many shoes that squish my toes or cause blisters so it's difficult for me to find comfy, walkable shoes. And I do need to be able to walk in my shoes.

Hmmm, I would have to say my short legs are my hardest to work with.  It eliminates the possiblity of me wearing about 75% of available pants and skirts.  Second would be my thighs (wider because the legs are so short!), which eliminates another 15% or so of the available pants .

For some, this may not be considered a figure flaw, but it drives me nuts--- my long inseam. I'm only 5'6" but my inseam is 33-34" without wearing heels. I have the hardest time finding pants that are long enough, especially if I want to wear heels with them. I'll find the perfect pair of pants and then I'll look down at my feet and realize that they are far too short to wear with heels of any kind. And alot of times, they're too short for flats, too.

I'm w/most of yall - my butt/hips/thighs area! I have the hardest time finding pants, since my waist is still of a descent size. Most of the pants are too big in the waist, but fit perfectly elsewhere. And my slight pooch - hate it, but I work around it.

Same here! Always need to have my pants hemmed and the cute skirts that everyone has been wearing (80% of what anthro sells) swallow me!

Oooh, good poll! I have 3 that I can think of:

1. broad shoulders (broad for my frame, at least)
2. stomach! I am short waisted, and it's the only place I ever gain weight.
3. my legs. I have scars that I am sort of embarrassed about, and I have really sensitive skin on my legs, so I constantly have rashes, etc.

My arms are longer than average, so I have a really hard time finding sweaters and l-s tops that are long enough in the sleeves without being baggy everywhere else. I actually own quite a few 3/4 sleeve tops for this reason!

I have to chime in with my short waist and girls.  My legs are quite long (30.5 inseam) for being 5'1 and as a result, I have like a 3 in. waist-length.  Ok, not really, but it seems like it.  Very rarely do i wear heels so i never have my pants hemmed.  The girls are too large for my petite statute and I feel I'm too disproportionate. :(

Yep, the hip area is the biggest gripe, with my waist disproportionately smaller- so have that gap in the back. But, I rate second my pooch below the belly button. And i havent even had children! It drives me crazy!!

Relrel and I were just talking about this today, how weird. To tell your waist length, you determine the length (you don't actually have to measure, just find it with your fingers) between the bottom of your rib cage and the top of your hip. I have a good 4, 5"- I am longwaisted. Some people's ribcage/hip practically touch- short waisted. I'd say an inch or two is probably average size.
