does anyone have any recommedations for hotels that they have stayed at in london or paris?
we both have an idea of where we would like to stay- but are willing to look at other options- esp. if someone has actually stayed there before and has good things to say about it!
oh- and we are trying to keep the cost low b/c we are going to be there 13 nights. 2 nights are taken care of b/c of the wedding we are going to and one night we are staying somewhere REALLY swanky! so really we just need something middle of the road for the rest of the nights... say about 80-120 euros?
We've stayed twice at a place next to Paddington station called the Dolphin Hotel. It was nice but no frills. It does serve a great English breakfast and is quiet and clean. Its on a pretty street across from a park. I'm not sure of the exact cost but it wasn't very expensive.
I JUST got back from Paris - I stayed at the most fab boutique hotel EVER. Its in the Trocadero between the Arc de Triomphe and the Tour Effiel. Great neighborhood. 2 blocks from metro. Its called Trocadero Dokhan's Sofitel - tell them I said hi! http://www.orbitz.com/hotel-info/FRFR/VS-1948.html?source=pi&type=k&gcid=C11287x173
My neighbor who was born and raised in France ALWAYS stays at the Hotel Odeon in the 5th arrondisement (sp?) when she goes to Paris. She's not particularly rich (but has great taste, a born love for old-school Chanel and Cartier) and would NEVER stay anywhere else. Let me know if you need her contact to try and get a lower rate...she's know the proprietor there for twenty + years.
I love Hotel Mercedes. It's tiny (like 20 rooms), but really nice and super cheap (I paid around $60 a night and it included breakfast) with friendly staff. It's about a 10-15 minute walk to the Arc and a block from the Wagram metro stop. I'll definately stay there again.
princesspink- your hotel looks lovely but was WAYYY out of our price range!
lilykind- you have a PM
ILC- i have sent a reservation request to hotel mercedes group- looks like they own several hotels around paris and i think they will come back with available ones for the dates that we have...
In case none of these other ones work out for you, here's my rec:
I stayed at the Hotel Mayet last May for 2 nights. It seemed to have been renovated recently - everything looked pretty modern (in terms of both condition and style) and our bathroom was sparkling clean. We paid 150 euros a night for a triple and it looks like rates through Paris Hotels is 110-130 for a double. I liked the location a lot; the only downside is that the closest metro stop is not on a convenient line. Also they had free internet access.
Later that trip I stayed in a budget place in the 14th that was ok. The rate was around 80 euros. The room was very bare bones and the bathroom was the typical old and kind of creaky Euro bathroom but I loved the neighborhood, even though it was out of the way. I booked that pretty last minute so if you can't find anything else I can get that name for you.
