I just made an appointment to get my hair done for a wedding. I was take aback when they told me it would be $50 -60 dollars to get one done. Is this price about average?
I've got another related question.... Its been about 2 months since I got my hair trimmed so its about time for me to make a hair appointment. Would it look better if I got my hair trimmed before getting this updo? I figure it shouldn't matter since my hair will be up. Is my thinking correct on this?
It probably depends where you're located. Things tend to be expensive where I am..and updos are more like $70-100.
I recently did my own updo for a wedding I was in and everyone complimented me that it was the best out of all the bridesmaids..I think because I tried to go for a more natural look instead of having someone create a weird sprial curl sculpture on my head w/ 10 gallons of hairspray.
Kitty - I pay $50 for a haircut...I just thought the updo would be less expensive.
Do you happen to have a picture of your self-styled hair? I'm not sure what I want (I just know I don't want tons and tons of hairspray and bobby pins, etc.) so I'd be great to get ideas.
That sound about right. Depending on the location and type of salon, I've heard of some updo's costing almost $100.
I try to stick w/smaller salons or salons in older towns. When I got married I paid $55 at an upscale salon. This past year I was in my BFF's wedding and went to my MIL's hairdresser who happens to be localed in the older part of the city and I only paid $35. I guess when you go to an upscale salon the price includes the higher lease payment, the hip music, and the fabolous decor and architecture.
In my experience, it is worth it to pay more money for an updo. Not every hairstylist is good at them. It's like an art and the best artists are going to be able to charge the most money. The only hairstylist that ever gave me good updos charged $100. I've had my hair put up tons of times between high school functions, sorority functions, and various other things like military balls. Anytime I've tried to take the cheap route, I've ended up in tears because my hair looked like a beehive or too tight or like I was wearing a banana clip.
