Risk Management Anyone?
Permalink Closed

SOOooo.. I just graduated from law school and have accepted a position as Risk Manager at a hospital. The hospital was looking for someone with a JD, and because it's a smaller community they wanted someone familiar with the area...that's me!!

My problem is that I have NO IDEA what I'm going to be doing...the CEO (who I'll be reporting to) told me that I will be doing a lot of on the job training and that they will make sure I'm prepared before setting me out on any large tasks...but I would really like a little more insight...

Is anyone familiar with the Risk Management area? Any ideas on what I might actually be doing? Anyone else scared by the fact that a HOSPITAL'S risk manager has no idea what or how she's supposed to do her job?

TIA~

My guess would be anything that could prevent them from getting sued, like legal fine print on documents, etc.  Congrats on the job offer!

That's basically what it is.  I used to do Risk Management when I first started working at my company.. that's how I got my foot in the door.

I don't know if you'd be interested, but the University where I work (top-tier university) has a professional development program on Strategic Decision and Risk Management. At the very least you could look at the Web site and get a better understanding of what it is.
