This morning I noticed that I have quite a few bruises on my legs and I have no idea where they came from. I know I banged my knee the other day, so that explaines one, but I have one on each of the backs of my legs, right above my knee. One is rather large. It seems like over the past week I'm noticing new ones popping up. I probably have five right now. I have never been the time to bruise easily either. Should I be concerned? I'm not sure what this could be from or mean?
Bruises can occur in some people who exercise rigorously, such as athletes and weight lifters. These bruises result from microscopic tears in blood vessels under the skin.
The other option is a bleeding/blood disorder..but I doubt you have one.
I found this on eMedicine: Bruises can occur in some people who exercise rigorously, such as athletes and weight lifters. These bruises result from microscopic tears in blood vessels under the skin. The other option is a bleeding/blood disorder..but I doubt you have one.
Hmm, I don't know - I definitely do not exercise rigorously. I run maybe 2-3 times a week. Anything else anyone knows of that could be causing this?
Have you been taking a lot of aspirin or aspirin-based products lately? If I do that, I can get little bruises on my thighs from resting my elbows on them.

That might be it actually. My allergies have been killing me lately, and I've had sinus headaches, so I've been taking Motrin, Excedrin, Benedryl, and Sudafed more recently. I didn't know that could cause it!

I guess because aspirin is a blood thinner so you can bruise easier. At least I do. Hope it clears up the problem!
I always have bruises on my legs and can't remember where they're from. Are you clumsy? I am a total spaz physically, so usually I assume I ran into something.

This reminds me of an episode of House where a lady keeps getting bruises and rugburns and she doesn't know how... and then House figures out that she's been having sex in her sleep!
So... obviously that is the smallest chance ever. I just thought it was funny

Hahah ttara! I'm pretty sure that's not my problem, but I'll have to ask my boyfriend!
Halley - no, i'm not a particularly clumsy person - I think the problem may be what Blubirde suggested - too much aspirin lately. I'll keep on eye on them and see if anymore pop up. Thanks girls!
Not to scare you, but I took an oncology course, and bruising can be an early symptom of some kinds of cancer. I definitely think it could be other things, so don't panic, but I would keep an eye on it if it doesn't go away, or you get more. (I'm pretty sure they wouldn't just be on your legs though if was caused by cancer.)

Sometimes I get a lot of bruises on my legs and I always freak out about it being cancer since I don't know how they got there.
If they keep popping up, then I would be concerned.
Did you ever figure it out shopchicago? was it the asprin? I seem to be having a bruise problem too lately. I woke up the other morning with a massive bruise on my thigh and I know I didn't hit anything.

Hey Aurora - I never really figured it out, and the bruising stopped and went away. If I had to guess, it was probably that I was taking a lot of asprin at the time.
shopchicago33, when rancheradeb and I were younger we used to bruise pretty often. The doctors said because are blood platates were low. But we are not allowed to take aspirin for the same reason blubirde explained about, its a blood thinner. But I see the problem has cleared up, if it appears again, do go for a checkup.
mikacat - my bf was wondering about vitamins and iron since i tend to eat mainly carbs and chicken - no beef. I might need to look into changing the diet somewhat.
