Just a small vent/rant. For 2 months I have been stalking my plane tickets to Orlando for a decent fare and its always been $300+ on both southwest and continental. Well this morning Southwest announced $89 each way so I jumped and booked and lo and behold i now get an update that continental lowered their fare to $186 r/t. I so wanted to fly Contintental but this morning they were still at $294 not including taxes. They had the better flight time, better airport in houston, and I've flown Continental many times. I've never flown southwest, never been to that airport ever, and I was nervous already but now I'm mad and nervous.
Will someone please tell me I'm going to be ok and to get over this small bump? I mean its not life threatening or will make or break my trip but really, I'm still freaking out over it like an idiot.
Ok mini rant/vent over. At least my trip is now 100% fully booked and paid for. Dinner reservations have been made at all restaurants for all times requested, and all I need now are appropriate tennis shoes and my trick or treating tickets with Mickey and I will be ready to pack and leave. Its not so bad.
I totally know where you're coming from. When I was stalking my ticket to Philadelphia, the price kept creeping up and up until I finally just decided to go for it before it got any higher. And its not a cheap ticket. Lo and behold about 2 weeks after I bought it, it went on sale for $100 cheaper. I was so pissed b/c there was no way for me to do a refund or prcie adjustment or anything.
The travel industry is the only service where some people get price a, some get price b or whatever for the same product/service. This winter we went on a snowboarding trip with my friend and her bf. Their hotel room and lift tickets were $175. Ours, booked at the same hotel, same room, same everything- $205. Why? because they booked in the morning and by the time we booked in the afternoon the price was different. Its such a crock.
It is such a crock Metric. The thing is I had noticed a pattern with those 2 airlines when one went down the other went up until the past week with southwest started creeping down and contintental hadn't. Oh well its the same price just different airlines and airports here in town but the same destination so it should be ok
Too bad you couldn't get some type of price adjustment. My friend had that happen to her with a plane ticket and she ended up doing something where she cancelled the ticket for a fee but rebooked under the lower fare and got it for the lower fare and a voucher for the difference she paid so she came out ahead some how but it was odd.
Just a did you know tidbit here... One of the property management companies that owns a few apt complexes here in town has started that kind of pricing for their rent. Based on the date you want to move in and the date you sign your lease you get different prices so no one in their complexes pays the same rent. It is crazy. I told the rental lady no way was I playing that game.
don't worry! you'll be fine. i fly all airlines (but try to stay loyal to either Northwest or Delta) and have never had a huge problem with any. US Airways is kind of mean sometimes... but only when they are going east. for some reason they are always nice when you are going west but i digress...
good job booking the lower flight... and enjoy your trip!
Hey girl, Southwest really aint that bad! I flew it to Dallas a couple of months ago. The good news is that Hobby is alot closer to you than IAH. Just hop on I45 South and it's prob 10-15min away. Another plus- the parking is WAY cheaper. Not sure if you guys are getting dropped off or leaving yr car there... It's like $6 for covered parking or something crazy cheap like that. At IAH, it's a least $8 for uncovered parking!!!
Kahulamilk is right, Southwest is not bad at all. We almost always fly it because we can get good rates through the DING program that they do. They may not have as many perks as some of the others but perfectly comfortable, and they have a great record for leaving on time. You can print out your boarding pass online also a day in advance and I found that to save alot of time at the airport. Hobby is so much easier to get in and out of than IAH. I think you will be happy when you see, because it is alot smaller and easier to manuever. Don't worry you will be fine!!
I hope you have a great time!!! We are going back next March, but I want to go NOW!!!! So you are going for Halloween? Take pictures so we can see how it looks at that time of year!
Thanks girls. I think I was just nervous about flying on an airline I hadn't been on before and the A, B, C seating thingy but I figured out how to sign in on a blackberry so bf and I are getting blackberries before the trip (our work pays for the service 100% and there are always corporate deals to get them for around $50 ) so we can sign in while trick or treating.
Joy I have been playing on a few different disney boards to plan my trip. I also have my itenary if you want me to pm you with where we are eating and what we are doing and the boards i'm now addicted to let me know. I am so excited. Only 55 more days!!!!!
