In a funk.
Permalink Closed

Ok, so there's this guy that I have had a major crush on for a couple of months but he's had a girlfriend.  We've still been friends and stuff, though.  Anyway, his girlfriend broke up with him about a month ago, but they are still going through a lot of break up drama.  He starting calling me and texting me a couple of weeks ago and we hung out last weekend and had fun, but since then, I haven't heard from him.  I don't want to be his rebound girl, but I seriously really like him and I'm super bummed and can't pull myself up and out of this funk.  Any suggestions on what I should do or your take on the situation would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks girlz!

I would continue to be a friend but don't get overly involved in his drama and don't always be available when he needs to talk about it.  Put up some boundaries so you don't become that "shoulder to cry on" per se.  If there is still a lot of drama going on in his breakup I would not want to begin dating him because he will only drag that into your new relationship and you might become the rebound girl.  Give him some time to move on and then see about dating him when he doesn't have any past relationship strings dangling off of him.

ITA. If its "meant to be" it'll still work out in a few months. Rushing things will only cause you stress .

I agree with this as well. Good things take time. If it is meant to be, he will come around. I wouldn't get too mixed up with him for the time being. Drama is always bad, even if you aren't directly involved.

Definitely don't get involved right now. I was on his side just a few months ago, and it was worse because I also was really interested in my friend. We both realized, however, that if we went for it I would probably wreck it all up and turn him into a rebound. There was no way I was ready for a real relationship, and definitely not ready to have the kind of relationship I would want with someone I cared so much about. We didn't talk about this all then, we actually just had a conversation about it last week and we kind of laughed at ourselves, but we were both glad that we had the good sense not to give in. It would've ruined our friendship, and it would've ruined any chance of having a relationship if we ever get to that

Thanks so much, everyone.  I needed to hear the voice of reason instead of only listening to my stupid girly emotions.  It still sucks and I still feel bummed about the whole situation, but I know it's better to wait.  Thanks again!  Really!

Ditto to this. I'm in a similar situation with D, since I haven't been rid of Stupid for too long. As it is, I have a tendency to mess things up when I'm not rebounding, but those tendencies are super intensified when I've recently broken up with someone.

So, that said, good things come to those who have the patience to keep their pants on. Or if they've already come off, to those who have the sense to put them back on and slow things down a bit. Metaphorically speaking, of course.
