I know, I know I did it to myself, but who knew both our families were sooooo clueless?!?

Now, nobody in either of our families has had a wedding in many, many years, but I figured since they could all read and follow simple instructions that everything would be just fine.  I'm sure this is all just the same crap that everybody throwing a wedding goes through .... but ...

We asked people to initial their meal choices on the reply cards (formal sit down meal, and therefore placecards so waiters don't have to ask everyone what they ordered, burger-king style).  So far we've had to contact 10 different couples to see who wanted what, because they just checked the boxes.  I even had an aunt ask me why we were so curious what her and my uncle were having (!) before she would tell me.

Well obviously, it's because I just had to slip a random poll in somewhere, useless information gatherer that I am.

We've had two unidentifiable RSVPs come back.  On the name line, one of the couples just put '2'.  On the other, the person put 'self' .

Apparently, we're just not fancy on the inside like some other families .

I am so sorry--but everything will turn out fine!  I cannot help but laugh because I know if I were to have a wedding like yours (I think I will do a really small wedding with a buffet--I never liked wedding buffets until I went to one a couple months ago and now that is what I want), my family would be the same!  I wouldn't expect any less, that is just how they are.

It is almost over, and as mush stress as it is causing now, hopefully you won't think of it later.

Elle I'm so sorry they are making it so hard...I mean why do they think you are asking what they are having? Maybe so they will have something made for their dinner? I'm curious how you explained it to her though. I just had to laugh at your last comment.... Hang in there- it's almost over

Ha!  It is pretty funny - you just have to shake your head and move on I guess.  I am going to get a ton of mileage out of this stuff at parties, though!

Luckyclover - she asked via email, so luckily she didn't actually hear the incredulous I let out in her direction .  I just informed her that we were having a formal sit down dinner, and that the catering director had requested a meal list so the waiters wouldn't have to run around all night, shuffling meals and asking everyone if they remembered what they had ordered.

These people are going to earn themselves places at the 'I was forced to invite you/Nobody here likes/knows you so I don't know where else to put you' table right quick ....

This is why I tell people to run off. But I don't think you asked so....

My family would be the same way. You poor poor thing.

That is too funny we actually asked what the worst tables in our room were so we could put people we did not like there, but are forced to invite!

awww hugs!  i'm sure it will all turn out for the best!

when my best friend got married, her mother (who at this point had planned 5 weddings for her children) had learned the hard way to NUMBER every RSVP card in accordance to the NUMBER on the guest list- so that when the #214 RSVP card came back with "2" on the line- she could look up who was #214 and find out it was weird Aunt Sally and her crazy husband Steve.  it was the best lesson I learned from someone in regards to the RSVP cards and the craziness they ensue!!!

I did indeed consider numbering them all.  But we made postcards, so there wasn't anywhere to number them discreetly, and they went out later than planned as it was.  We do at least have the postmarks to go by.  We're going to have to call everyone who hasn't responded by the deadline anyway, so I'm sure it will come out then!

I hate to laugh at your stress and frustration but those responses are hilarious. At least you have a sense of humor about it all.
