I totally won't judge you, but I was just wondering if you, or anyone else you know lies on job interviews about your experience, pay and responsibilities. I was talking to a friend at work, and she was telling me how someone from the company went to go work elsewhere, and is making 25k more than she was previously, because she lied about her salary. I guess I would be scared to do it, but I guess that is the way to make more money when you go from job to job ?
the only thing I ever lie about is that stupid "how do you deal with a boss you don't get along with?" question. Dude, I'm not talking shit about anyone on an interview. All of my bosses have been perfect angels and we have gotten along just wonderfully.
I will fib a tad on job duties/responsibilities and also on group projects but for other things that they can check up on I won't fib on. I think someone on here just went through a scare because she accidently did this. Its too easy for them to call up your old employer and ask questions about titles and money (they can't really verify too much on what you did because who keeps track) so I would stay away from fibbing on that one.
In my experience, lying gets you no where. They will check you out if they are interested. I have had students ask me the same question and I alway say that honesty is really the way to go if you have the credentials to back yourself up.
I have a different experience, but many people I have known who do freelance production accounting will frequently pad their salaries in order to get paid more for their next jobs. Salary is frequently kind of put in a range DOE. It's hard to tell exactly how much someone would get paid because it can vary so much from show to show so those artful in the skill of white lies will indeed get much larger pay raises than expected.
BUT
I personally have only gone for corporate jobs and I have never lied about my own salary...I would onky consider padding it if I was a true freelancer.
The only thing I've ever lied about is computer experience. The way I look at it, most programs that they want you to know how to use can't be that hard to figure out, so I will lie a little.
My BIL lies for jobs all the time. He's just the kind of person that can pull it off though. For his first job as a cook, their family had recently moved to the area so he lied on the app and said that he used to run a hot dog stand with his uncle in another state. They really believed him too.
His dad told me one time that you can put anything on an app and get away with it, so long as it's something you can do. In this case my BIL knew how to make hot dogs and hamburgers, and how to count change back to people.

Never have lied. I even told the truth when I was an intern and said I have never made a pot of coffee in my life (I really have not). I once had a sorority sister who would make up stuff on her resume and she was like how do you think my mom got her job. I am like oh my goodness its called integrity... get some.
I have never and would never. I think there's a way to spin things and make yourself look good without lying about experience and salary. And lying about your salary is a really bad move in my book. Aren't IRS records public information? I don't think it would be difficult to find out someone's salary and lying about it would be REALLY not good.
Also, whenever I hire people, we pretty much have a non-negotiable salary that's posted in the job description, so I take it that if someone is applying for the job, that they're okay with the salary we're offering. If they tried to lie to me about what they made in order to bump up their salary, I'd be piiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiised and there's no way they'd get the job.
I never have, wont anytime now, and never will want to lie during my interview for any jobs. It will come back and haunt you in a way or other. My friend lied about his salary and had a leap in his salary as he started working. He is still fine today but I know a karma will hit him one day. In today's circumstances, you cannot really risk any wrongdoings. Just... dont risk it. Just my opinion.
