I vote for Cyprus. I've been there and it's just beautiful! I've been to the Greek side of it and that's where I'd recommend going. I was only there for about 4 days (and on a crazy choir tour with a nasty sunburn), so I didn't get to do as much as I would have liked.

When I was still a U.K. citizen with my U.S. greencard, I visited Cuba via Canada. Now that I'm a U.S. citizen, I plan on going back with my husband, who has never been to Cuba. I've had friends who have been many times via Mexico and Jamaica. If you decide to do it, I think Canada is likely better in order not to arouse suspicion from U.S. immigration.

My dad, who lives in Canada, is in Cuba right now and goes at least twice a year. Sadly, he does the all-inclusive route, but it is easy to find places to stay outside of the resorts. And there are lots of cheap charter flights from Canada to Cuba.  I recently told with my dad that he's going to take me and my husband to Cuba as an anniversary present. (He thought I was joking, but I am very serious.)

I would suggest getting there before Castro passes on because once U.S. developers get their hands on Cuba's beautiful beaches and amazing architecture, the country is going to be unrecognizable.

If you're interested and want more info, send me a PM.
