Be sure to check out Manayunk - its the cutest part of the City - great restaurants and shopping. My favorite store EVER (outside of LA) is called Smith Bros. Its right on the Main Street - up close to the bridge. I wish they would open one in DC!!
I don't really know if we'd be able to make it to New Jersey since I only have 5 days I'd like to see as much of Philly as possible. I don't want to be running around everywhere like crazy. Sorry guys!
Ally S would you be interested in coming down for an evening out or something? (and bring your cutie friend Jon Stewart? j/k)
I am arriving in the morning of Thursday Aug 3 and leaving afternoon of Tuesday Aug 8.
relrel, I'll definitely meet up with you in AC and probably Philly, too, depending on what you're planning on doing and when. If you all come to Lancaster, I'll be there, too. Although, yeah, I disagree, Jocey, I hate the outlets and Lancaster isn't my favorite place.
PrincessPink mentioned Smith Bros. There is actually one of those in both Old City and University City.
Oh, and the shopping guide in Lucky sucked. Boohiss. I've been waiting for years for them to do a guide on Philly and they totally botched it.
Definitely plan to spend a day at KoP. That's my regular mall of choice, so I go there frequently, and I still usually spend at least an entire afternoon there. If you do go to KoP, you also might end up at Anthropologie in Wayne. If you go to Wayne, you'll be in my turf - I just graduated from a university in Wayne! Go to the Gryphon on Lancaster Avenue, a small coffee shop just a couple blocks from Anthro. IMO, they make the best lattes in the Philadelphia area, and they also have a lot of really tasty sandwiches and salads for lunch.
If you're visiting historic Philly (which is my favorite area of the city, by the way), visit Elfreth's Alley. It's a couple blocks from Franklin's house, and it's basically a quiet little side street of preserved row homes that date back to the 18th century. One of the houses is rigged up so that you can tour it - it looks like an authentic colonial home. That's the only one you can actually go into, but you can look at the outsides of the other ones. It really feels like you're walking back in time.
Also check out the Kimmel Center and the Academy of Music. The Academy used to be the home of the Philadelphia Orchestra, and its acoustics are responsible for the orchestra's world-famous sound. The Kimmel Center is the new home of the orchestra, and it's a gorgeous, gorgeous building that's open for people to walk around during the day.
A really fun place to stop for a break is the Bubble House on Samson Street near University City (where Drexel and Penn are). It serves this think called "bubble tea," which is basically different flavors of very sweet tea and milk (along the lines of an iced chai latte, only they come in like 30 different flavors) with tapioca balls at the bottom. It sounds weird, but it's actually delicious! Also, the Reading Terminal Market is a fun place to go and has the best cookies in Philadelphia. It's a really fun indoor food market. The Italian Market is also a really fun place to go.

All great suggestions, Michibanana! I completely forgot about Bubble Tea until you mentioned it. I love that stuff!! It's sooo good.
I was wondering if you knew when you will be visiting AC, I will be there from the 9th-12th.
