Oh, RyanJ! I am so sorry. I cannot imagine how I will feel when that day comes for one of my dogs. The fact that he's had 20 years of a happy life is incredible and a testament to how well he was cared for.

I just wanted to add what Halleybird said is true. 20 years is awesome for a dog. Saying goodbye is hard but maybe in some time you can get a new dog to share your love with.

My heart goes out to you because I have faced this same issue this week. And It was one of the hardest things Ive ever done in my life. My dog Brittany was such a central part of our family and a dear friend. She had become sick with diabetes and in two years time it had finally taken its toll. But, even though I knew it was time, and that she was feeling physical pain, I struggled with my decision, and my inability to let her go. It is too soon to say I feel good about having done it, but I am at peace that she is no longer in pain.
