Sofa Slipcovers

I currently have a couch that is not the most pleasant shade of green and I want to get a new one. Unfortunately, I'm not going to have the finances to do that for awhile. So I was thinking that slipcovers for the couch and pillows might be a good approach. Has anyone ever done this before?

I have slipcovers and I HATE them! They never stay on and I feel like I have to adjust them every 5 seconds. OK, maybe not that much, but every time I get off the couch they need to be readjusted to look even halfway decent. I say embrace the ugliness of the green.

I hate slipcovers too.  It's so messed up after you sit in it!  I think a slipcover that would work good is the ones that have a separate cover for the cushions.

There is a type of slipcover that stays put- I have it on my couch. I purchased mine thru Macys: Try it!

I have tried lots of different kinds on a chair of mine, and none have worked well. In fact, pinning a sheet seems to work as well, or better. But it depends on how standard a shape your sofa is.

I have them and I hated them at first. I learned a simple trick though and they are not nearly as annoying now. Tuck them in the way you want them and then roll up a magazine really tightly and wedge it down behind the cushions to where you can not see it. This really helps to keep them from slipping out of place. I ordered mine from Overstock.com they had several different styles.

If you are willing to spend a little more $$$$, check out this place:

I bookmarked it a few years ago, after the Washington Post raved about them in a Home&Garden article.  After we move, I am going to investigate using them to make a slipcover for a chair and couch.

JJ - that site is really cool!  But i calculated the ~ cost for recovering my sofas and it came out to be over $900 for the loveseat and sofa!  Yikes!  How much is re-upholstering generally?  Feel like I should just start all over with new sofas!

Hmm...considering the cost of slipcovers and re-upholstering, I better just save up for a new couch! Thanks for the input everyone!
