I've done it for over a year now. I get the tiniest of pimples on my face (the unpoppable, disappear in a day or two, insignificant type) now, but I'm clearer than I've been in my life. I must add that I have been on two rounds of Accutane as well. However, I know acne.org's program works because I don't use it on my back or chest and still get big painful pimples in those places (Sorry if TMI).
I use:
I also use toner: (1) drop of 100% tee tree oil on a wet cotton ball
Follow the directions exactly and it works! Bonus is that this regimine is about 1/4 the price compared to what I used to spend on my face care.
Drew, how long did it take before your skin cleared up when you started the routine? I have the same kind of acne that you described, I was nice and clear before I stopped my birth control! Ever since it has been a mess, even when I went back on the pill.
I started the regimen at the end of February. I actually had to tweak the regimen a bit. It wasn't really working. Lotion w/ spf made my face more oily. Morning: Proactiv cleanser (leave on for 1-2 min) Neutrogena Healthy skin (sensitive) Shiseido SPF55
Night:
Proactiv cleanser(Leave on for 1-2 min) Dan's Clear Gel Benzoyl Peroxide Neutrogena Healthy Skin (sensitive)
So far, knock on wood, I'll get one or two during my period. I really like Dan's BP because after putting lotion on top, it doesn't get cakey.

About four months. By the eight month mark all the red marks and "scars" were gone! Yay! I still stare at my face in disbelief because for eighteen years of my 28 years on Earth I have had acne (yep, since 10). It's so nice to have clear skin. I always have a lot of compassion when I see people with acne because acne covers up and hides who you really are; people don't see you, they see the acne. Sorry for rambling but it's a subject I am kinda passionate about.
