So I just found out my cousin in London got engaged, so my bf and I are going to try to make it. It'll be sometime in August. I've been checking all the usual websites to get an idea on airfaire, and I can't find a ticket cheaper than $863 per person!! What the hell? $400 maybe, but $900???? That's flippin' ridiculous!! Any suggestions or words of wisdom for me?
Ouch! Have you tried Sidestep? $900 sounds painful indeed! And if you haven't already, being flexible with your dates by a day or two in either direction can sometimes help, too.

I was just going through the same thing, but I ended up deciding not to go. I was getting tickets for like $520 though. I think orbitz.com and kayak.com are the best. Also try checking out airlines' websites. Aer Lingus, Virgin, United and American all had fairly good prices for me at different times.
for London, I always find the best deal going through the airlines themselves. Try Aer Lingus, Virgin Atlantic, British Airways, Air France, and Iceland Air. I usually find the best deals through them.
Europe is always expensive in the summer. $800-$900 sounds about right to me for flying in the summer. If you can, wait until end September, even into October, and flights should be much cheaper. Also remember that fuel surcharge is going to drive up the cost of flights quite a bit.

I agree. $8-900 is a pretty standard fare for June-August. $400 would be a good fare for the spring or the fall. You should be able to find something a bit cheaper than $863 though if you are flexible and willing to try different carriers. I always have the best luck with the "flexible dates" option on Travelocity but it looks like the options for this summer are pretty bad (high prices, lots of sold out "cheap" fares). Aer Lingus seems to always have good fares and you can always take a chance on Air India!
i feel your pain. we are not finding anything cheaper than $800 right now too! we are going sept. 2-16 (flexible with dates) and we have to go then due to a wedding we are going to is sept. 8th!
unf. we have checked all the intl carriers like virgin and BA. they are gouging on taxes- over $250 in taxes and fees! the prices aren't too bad $500 or so- but then the taxes just make them 'diculous!

Have you checked STA Travel? I know they specialize in student travel but they do offer non-student airfares, too. I've used them a couple of times in the past (I was still a student, though).
I did a quick search on their site and found non-student airfares to London in Sept for around $620-640 depending on the dates, including tax.
