How do you organize and store all of your bills and important documents? 


I ask because im looking for a bday gift for my dad, and I know he wants some sort of organizational system. He currently has a bunch of piles on our dining room table.... He already has a firesafe box, but he something to keep all his bills and such in order, I dont want to get him anything that is too bulky, take up too much space, looks tacky etc....  Something that can neatly fit in a closet would be great!

I use a file size basket that I bought at Pier1 a few years ago. Also Target has a "Real Simple" line of organization products, I bought a file box yesterday to use for magazine clippings.

A file box - plastic from Target that I made a bunch of normal sized files to fit in with printed labels.

I keep all of my important docs (birth certificate, passport, SS card, insurance cards, etc.) in a plastic file similar to this:


Bills go in a plastic accordian file similar to this:


Tax Info (donation & dining receipts, mileage, & other expenses) go in a smaller accordian file like this:
