I didn't really notice any difference either way. If I might suggest Mario Badescu, their products really worked well when I was having a problem with breakouts.
It works great for me. Have been using it for about three years now. I tried a lot of prescription medicines including accutane, differin gel and retin A micro and have gotten the best results with proactiv. My acne is not completely gone, but if I regularly use proactiv there is a huge improvement.
I used it when my skin was freaking out while I was studying for the bar exam. It worked well on my skin. Wasn't a miracle but cleared things up.
The downside was that I don't know what part of it did this, but it bleached my clothing and towels badly. I don't know how it got on everything, but tons of the shirts I bought that summer have bleached spots on them by the collar. And my towels were all spotted. So be very careful around your clothes if you try it!!!
ETA: I forgot to mention that yes, I have used Proactiv before and the site I directed you to is the same concept but far cheaper and the products don't necessarily have to be ordered, unlike Proactiv.
I've never used Proactiv, but my bf used to use it a few years back in high school (football practice in the summer does not make for unclogged pores ) and it worked very well for him. His skin cleared right up and styed that way. His only complaint, if you care, was that he'd run out of one of the bottles way before the other two were empty, and he had to buy the whole set again (he couldn't just get a bottle of the stuff he needed). He hasn't used Proactiv in at least three years, though, so that might not be a problem anymore, I don't know. He highly recommends it.

Yep, this is true! Certainly a relevant consideration for those on this forum.
It's the Benzoyl Peroxide in the cleanser and repairing lotion that bleaches things, so any acne med you buy that has that in it could potentially bleach stuff. I've found that it bleaches green and blue things the worst .

I started using it about the same time I started on ortho tri-cyclen, so I don't know which one of them did it, but my skin did really clear up.
My skin was pretty good in high school, then moving away from home, living on my own, etc. I guess took quite a toll on me stress-wise because I couldn't stop breaking out. I went to see my aunt one day, as I left she just gave me a plain box and said goodbye. I opened it on the way home and saw Proactive inside. It was kind of hurtful (it's not like I didn't know myself that I was having a problem, and doing anything I could to prevent it!), but when we were talking later she said her friend (in her 30s or 40s) swears by the stuff and drives two hours to get it every month. So that's got to say something!
