We're having a brunch this sunday for Easter. My husband really wants to have lasagna, b/c he's Italian and he has always had lasagna on Easter. So, we are trying to come up with a menu that includes lasagna and some breakfast foods. Now, he really wants to have migas, which are Mexican, and we want to serve this really good chorizo with it. However, he already ordered the lasagna (the one thing we are going to get catered to save time).
Do you think it will be weird to serve lasagna and migas together or does it not matter b/c it's a brunch and you are supposed to serve random things? here is our latest menu, someone PLEASE let me know if this sounds good or there are too many random flavors going on (btw there are no vegetarians coming):
appetizers:
bruschetta
brie (I need to find a recipe where you remove the casings b/c hubby didn't like eating the casings in the philo dough last time--uggh!) and fruit and crackers
main course:
meat lasagna
green beans wrapped in bacon (these are awesome)
migas
little sandwiches using french bread, pesto and argentine chorizo OR chorizo by itself
crusty italian bread
breakfast rolls and jam
drinks:
red and white wine
mimosas
almond flavored iced tea
dessert:
vanilla or coffee ice cream with warm caramel bananas
those things all sound tasty.. maybe as an idea put out the breakfast stuff first?? maybe that will make the transition easier? but all those things sound yummmmmmmmmmmmmy!
Honestly, if it were a smaller affair (it seems large with the amount of food you're describing), I'd say try to stick with a similar theme. But as is, it sounds like a giant buffet type thing and in that case, who cares? Go for it. I think you can get away with mixing more things when you're dealing with a larger group and larger amount of food.
I just remembered something my friends and I did for one dinner night.
We had an international night where each person brought a different themed dish. I had Italian, another friend had Vietnamese, another had Mexican, etc. It turned out really fun and not at all awkward, foodwise.
Maybe you could do something like that? Put a bottle of wine or champagne with the brie and fruits for the Parisian section... beer with the chorizo and migas... italian wine or something with the lasagna... and then i suppose there could be an american section where you put the other drinks, green beans, desserts, etc.
Thanks, girls. I feel better about it now. I know it sounds like a lot of food, esp since we are only having about 10 ppl! I'll have to talk to hubby about ditching one of the appetizers--he wants to add sausage to the brie and fruit. Uggh--there will be meat overload! We're also going to do just plain chorizo unstead of the little sandwiches. I'll let you all know how it goes and post recipes if anyone wants them.
blubirde--I love the international idea and may try to do that, thanks!!
Would love any additional comments if anyone has any.
One of the the first things that i gravitate toward on a buffet is a salad just because it is light and clean.
Maybe something like a baby spinach and boston bibb salad w/mandarin oranges, red onion and toasted pecans. Serve it with a light fruiting vinegarette on the side.
