Paltrow Gives Birth to Baby Boy Holy baby names! Gwyneth's bouncing boy, Moses
By Kat Giantis MSN Entertainment
All those who predicted Gwyneth Paltrow and Chris Martin would go with another fruit-related moniker for their new arrival were way off the mark. Instead, Apple's mom and dad went Biblical.
The Oscar winner, 33, and her Coldplay frontman hubby, 29, welcomed a healthy baby boy named Moses Martin this weekend in New York, her publicist confirms to MSN Entertainment.
There's already speculation that the holy appellation was inspired by Coldplay's song of the same name, which Martin reportedly wrote for Gwyneth. Sample lyric: "Come on now, don't you want to see?/This thing that's happening to me/ Like Moses has power over sea/So you've got power over me/Come on now, don't you want to know?/ You're a refuge, somewhere I can go/You're air that, air that I can breathe, 'cause you're my golden opportunity."
Whatever the reason behind the tyke's tag, the happy parents should expect plenty of punny headlines (e.g. "Let my pacifier go" or -- oy -- "Thou shalt not shrill") in the coming weeks, along with a plethora of blue-hued Moses baskets.
At least little guy will have big sister Apple to deflect some of the teasing on the playground, although given the spate of oddball celebrity names in recent years (from Julia Roberts' twins Phinnaeus and Hazel to Penn Jillette's daughter Moxie Crimefighter to Jason Lee's son Pilot Inspektor), Moses now seems almost run-of-the-mill.
Paltrow, who confirmed her pregnancy in January, has made no secret of her desire to expand her brood, and has repeatedly gushed about how the May 2004 arrival of Apple -- whose cuteness factor rivals the Jolie-Pitt tots -- transformed her.
"It's just incredible," she told Oprah. "You have a baby and it just changes everything. In one minute you just are completely redefined. I swear, that well of emotion, it's just inexplicable. I just felt like my life is forever changed...It's like a whole new dimension in emotion that I've never experienced.
I think naming your kid Moses is weird and a bit presumptious but eh? who cares? I'm no longer surprised by weird Hollywood kid names. Even if we never know who their parents are, we'll know they were famous at one time because they have the weirdest name evah.
not my style. but i'm happy for them! i bet he's going to be a cutie just like his sister.

It just seems like they are trying to be weird. I am all for differetn names- I am a girl named Ryan, but my parents didn't do it for shock value. Maybe if she hadn't named a kid Apple, then Moses wouldn't seem so weird.

I sort of like the name Moses. I wouldn't name any of my kids that, but when you're a rock star, the rules are different. I still think Apple is ridiculous, though.

I knew a girl in college named Apple -- after a while it was just her name, not something weird. Moses is a lot less strange than many other celebrity names, and since there's that song connection, it makes sense.
I like the name Moses. What's to be teased about that? Apple is cute name too. I'd rather be named that than any common name where you have three classmates with the same name! Different is good.
