Ugh...the Company Drunk (again)- A vent -
Permalink Closed

If you all remember, I posted a while ago about the drunken idiot that works for my company. Well, he's still driving me crazy.

We had our monthly sales meeting yesterday and I went over a bunch of new marketing strategies and programs that we are implementing. The entire sales team loved the ideas, but CD (Company Drunk) argued with every single one. And guess what CD's argument was? He thought that we should be doing things the way we've been doing things for the past 5 years. Um, hello! Marketing isn't a static thing. There have been alot of changes in my industry and my company over the past few years and our marketing programs needed to change along with them.

This guy is a complete moron. He isn't really even a salesperson (in fact, he failed the required test at my company that all sales candidates have to take--on a side note, I passed it). He has no understanding of how marketing works, what's effective, what's not, etc. I'm tired of him arguing with me (and my boss) at every sales meeting. It's exhausting.

I've also heard that he is still talking bad about me behind my back and he complains about me to my boss all the time and my boss is constantly defending me. CD tells people that I'm useless b/c I'm changing the way the program was previously run. Uh, right. That's useless. It's call initiative. No one else in the company has any issues with me at all.

I honestly think that this guy is a chauvinist pig and can't handle a woman who is intelligent and has ambition. I think he's threatened by me. And I'm sure it doesn't help that my boss carries me around on a silver platter and constantly tells him to get a grip. I know that's a good thing, but this guy is so insecure that it's making the whole scenario worse.

I know I'm not the only one with an issue with him, but he's really, really targeting me and other people in the company have noticed it. Apparently, though, there are clients who told their sales reps that they want him to stay far, far away from them and their business. Most of the sales reps refuse to even take him to clients.

Anyway, just needed to vent. Other than CD, my job is going really well.

I think you hit the nail on the head.  If he were secure at all, he wouldn't feel the need to talk about you behind your back and belittle your ideas.

Anyway, this guy is on a path to his own self destruction.  I don't think there's anything you need to do because I'm sure everyone sees him for what he is and he'll be gone before too long.  In the meantime though, hang in there and try to see the humor in the situation, because, seriously?  It's kinda funny that he's got his panties in such a wad over being threatened by you.

I agree w/ NC Shopper - looks like he's headed down a path of self-destruction.  he obviously has some silly beef with you, but if your boss is as proud of you as you say, you've got nothing to worry about ... he's just going to talk himself right out of his job eventually.

(who the heck is he to be arguing about marketing stuff?  i don't even understand why he's going to the meetings, let alone still has a job, when he sucks at his job, failed the sales test, and no one likes him.  what does his opinion matter?)

Sorry sweetie - just hang in there and condescend to him, so he knows he can't get a reaction. It must be incredibly frustrating to have to deal with this ass. At least he's in no position to affect your job...

That's the question that we all ask ourselves every day at the office. It's really quite a mystery.

Here's a humorous story for you (although not so humorous b/c it's work):

CD was enroute to a client (or probably a bar) and some signage (for a client) flew out of the back of his truck. He was on a major highway near Philly and rather than pulling over and collecting the client's signage, he just left it there. On his return trip, he noticed that traffic was blocked and there were police cars collecting the wayward signs from the center of the road. Again, rather than stopping, he just drove on by.

The reason, I deduced is that he was probably drunk b/c afterall, it was early afternoon and that, by CD standards is drinkin' time. I wouldn't even be surprised if he had an open beer in the car (he's been known to do this as well). What's worse is that our client's name was on this sign and the client could have gotten in trouble for CD's carelessness.

This guy is The Moron. Every day I hear a new tale of horror from the field about this guy. I'm waiting with baited breath for the day that he finally hears my favorite office catchphrase, "You're Fired!"

UGH!!
