a vent, if you will...
i work for a lady who's around 60 --- i've actually worked for her for about three and a half years, i started right after i moved here.
she's really cool with my schedule, generally, and has told me before that if i really needed to borrow money, i could (she knows my financial situation is tight - maybe she should pay me more! lol)
anyway so i shouldn't be complaining, but i am, about this...
i am very very weak - it's ridiculous, my family has always made fun of me for it! kay knows this, but it doesn't prevent her from ALWAYS asking me to carry stuff! she just called me and said "i'm out in my car with three boxes of paper for shredding, come out and meet me."
GAH! i am not a muscle man, and yet she constantly is asking me to do all the lifting stuff around here! every single time there is something heavy, she asks ME to do it.
so yeah, that's really frustrating.
actually while i'm on it, i'll mention a couple more things.
she looooooooooooooves delegating tasks, aka - telling people to do things she EASILY could do herself.
example: a client will call, and be asking me something about their account or investments. i have no knowledge about what people should do with their accounts or how their investments work. i don't work with the money, i take care of the daily office business. so a client will call and say "i'm wondering what to do about A" and so i'll buzz Kay and say "client is on the phone and needs to talk to you about A." she'll say "well ask them if B" so then i have to get on the phone and say "blah blah blah B" and the client doesn't know what B means, so i'll buzz kay and ask her, and she'll explain it, and i'll then have to get back on the phone and explain it to the client, and then they'll answer, and i'll buzz kay back and tell her the answer, and then she'll say "ok tell the client C"
so i tell the client c, and they say "oh and also D"
get it? it's ridiculous, but she ALWAYS tries to get ME to have the client conversations when she's the one who needs to be talking to them. it's stupid, it's a waste of time, and it's frustrating for the client. she just likes feeling like she's so important that she never has to directly deal with anything, which is really stupid because this is an office of four people, including her, and there's only one day a week that all four of us are here.
she'll also do things like buzz sharon in the next office and say "buzz liz and ask her if she's ready for the meeting."
helloooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!! in the amount of time you did that, you could have asked me yourself!!!!

or if we're trying to make a decision on something, like artwork for the brochure, or a promotional mailing, or whatever, usually she never agrees with sharon, who starts these projects. so she'll tell sharon she's wrong b/c of blah blah, but she wants to appear fair, so she tells sharon to ask me. i agree with sharon, and so kay says "well, we'll see what cheryl thinks."
cheryl agrees with all of us, so kay says she's going to ask her neighbor. i kid you not. she will keep asking people until someone agrees with her, and then she'll be like "see? i told you."

but, if i had agreed with kay initially, that would have been as far as she needed to go.

She sounds like a really bad person to work for. When I used to intern at a law firm, they always asked me to move files around and I felt like the wrong person for it, being 5'1 and generally small. I think it's because the rest of the office was female too, and they were used to their interns being male (the last one was a wrestler, too). I was so frustrated though - I didn't think I was signing on for manual labor!

ahh yes i work for that arse right now too.  I only have 2 more days of it though luckily.  I feel your pain.  Today i had to file a paper in the file that was right in front of his face because he couldn't do it himself.  I am not a secretary I am a freaking auditor!!! I hope he dies.

I think you should stage a hernia or something... it would add excitement to everyone's day and afford you a field trip to the hospital as well as get you out of the office for while

oh - and that whole power thing with having you talk to the people as she dictates what to say - that is so ridiculous... it's like she got one little taste of "power" and ran wild with it.  little people with big egos - a lovely combination.
