Have any of you heard of/read the book "Pledged" by Alexandra Robbins? I had never heard of it, but I guess it's a New York Times best seller. I found it in the Boston airport last week and it is sooooo good.
Alexandra, after college, decided to go undercover and explore the secret lives of sororities. I was never in a sorority, but some of my friends were. It just never was my thing. Anyway, I guess this book has gotten a lot of flack from sororities because it makes them look bad.
The book is like a reality show and follows the lives of four girls and their experience with Greek life, which includes binge drinking, eating disorders, promiscuity, bitchy-ness and all kinds of juicy news.
Since I haven't heard of this book before I was just wondering if any of you have or if you had read it and what your thoughts are.
I haven't seen the book and my college didn't have sororities, but I would be interested in reading it. I had two friends go to the same college, and both pledge. One loved it and went on to become president of her sorority, the other had a horrible experience. They brought a fellow fraternity over to "rank" them according to their looks. They lined them up on a staircase, and she was put toward last the end of the line. I remember her calling me crying, and I couldn't believe stupid stuff like that still exists.
i actually have this out of the library right now and it's due tomorrow and i haven't even started it. i was gonna return it, but now i might try to renew it. i was never in a sorority, but i just find the whole institution fascinating.
i read it recently because my sister gave it to me. it took me about 4 months to get through it. so i guess that kinda sums up a lot of it. here are some of my thoughts:
i felt the author kept on trying to say how neutral she was, but i think she was bias.
i think it would have been better if there were a lot more stories than so much background info (although some background info is definitely necessary).
the sleeve of the book makes it sound a lot more interesting than i felt like it really was.

I read this book last summer and was also intrigued by it. My college did not have sororities and I had and idea what they were all about and the book kind of confirmed my thoughts. I was disgusted by most of what was highlighted in the book and kept wondering why any girl would pay money to put up with any of it!
I read it and it is SOOOOOOO not how sororities are on my campus. Maybe they are like that on bigger campuses but certainly not here. It was a fun read but I think a lot of it is stretching the truth.
