Do you ladies know of any? Oh and Iam asking for May I know she is new here but I know her, she my grandma. She thought you ladies would have some good tips. Hopefully she can get some good info before BilleSue sees the post. Thanks ladies
I have no idea what to recommend. Aren't curl/setting lotions typically for older women? I don't know anyone who uses such a thing. Maybe she should just ask her stylist to do something a little different to see if that fixes the problem?-- Edited by JoceyBaby23 at 10:09, 2006-04-04
I second this. I think she's better off asking someone who is experienced with weekly hair-do's, such as her stylist. I think I am safe to say that the majority of readers/posters here are not familiar with a weekly hair routine - they're more daily or every other day shampoo and self styling.

Agreed. I think a curl cream is a fairly outdated product.
Unless you are looking for a product that makes the curls soft and reduces frizz. Then go with something like Garnier Fructis Curl and Shine. But be warned it has no hold, it is just for defrizzing and "separating" the curls. Also if she has fine hair, she should use it very spairingly so not to look greasy.
I don't know if this is what you're looking for, but I bought a Garnier Fructis curl lotion/cream type thing that works like a gel (in wet hair). It was okay... worth a shot for $5.
Aveda has something called "be curly," but this doesn't really sound like what May is looking for. I think the suggestion of updating her style with things she can do at home is probably a good one. She should either talk to her stylist or maybe try going to a new salon (kaykay, does she have an aveda near her?) i can't think of any way that hair can truly look good being styled only once a week! i bet she can find a routine that's easy for her to do at home, and save the stylist for special occasions and regular maintenance!
I get my hair done once overy 1-2 weeks. I think many women of color get ther hair done less because our hair can be a lot dryer than other ethnicities.
oh yes, irene, i knew that but didn't even think of it in this situation b/c kaykay said may is her grandmother, and from kaykay's pictures i know that she is not a "woman of color."
I'm not sure what curl cream is but when I curl my hair or scrunch for loose waves or put any kind of styling product in it, I can usually spritz some water on it to reactivate the style, if that makes sense. Usually the next day I just use my water bottle and go to town re-creating waves. HTH!
I'm not sure about curl cream, but I think Bluebirde is right about the water resetting. Also, aquage finishing cream is really good for second-day hair (although mine is fine, so I usually have to wash it every day...)
Thanks girls for all your help, My Grandma has fine hair but when she goes to the salon she gets a perm but she is looking for something to help the curls stay after it starts to come out. I think she needs to go to my stylist in fact I am going see if she will givemy stylist a try. Thanks again for all help.
Hedvig this sounds like something that might help.
Cricket The Garnier Fructis curl lotion/cream sounds good too.
Oh and I dont know who the hell this BillySue is but he/she is getting on my nerves.
the products i know that salons use for shampoo & sets are a firm gel, a curling spray and a firm holding hair spray. v. few are still doing these and the ones that are- don't want too! but they always ask me what gel, curling spray and hair spray i recommend for sets.
For getting the word out about my hair. There was so many respones to my hair problems Thanks ladies i appreciate everyones view and i thank you kaykay.yes i may have to go with you to see your beauty operator when you go again.
Hmm my grandma still goes weekly to get her hair done but since she doesn't really go out in public anymore - just to church she doesn't restyle it once its done on friday (she goes to church sat afternoon). Mainly because her eyes are really bad and she had a stroke so she can't grip things like she use to.
But I do remember when she was in better health she would get her hair set (fixed and curled) and then just use a tiny round brush (like 1 inch in diameter) or a pick to freshen up the curls and then spray with hair spray and her hair would be ready to go again. Oh and my grandma is in the North if that makes yall feel any better. Its not just an old southern thing
