Does anyone know if HE detergent can be used in regular front-loading washers? I read an article about how bad regular detergent is for the environment, and though I don't have a HE washer, I'd like to use the detergent if it will help the environment a bit.

If you are concerned about the environment you may want to consider using one of the following brands:
Mrs. Meyers (This is what I use)
Seventh Generation
Method
I know there are some others out there too, but Tide isn't one of them.

Thanks Drew -- When I run out of Tide (or whatever I have now) I'll pick up some Mrs. Meyers. The little grocery store right next to my apt. sells it (in mondo sizes too), but strangely I haven't seen it anywhere else. It can also be used for other things too (multipurpose), right?
Thanks for your help!

Glad I could help. I've noticed you're always trying to do your part in little ways (which all add up!) to help the environment. Good for you! Mrs. Meyer's has multi-purpose cleaner but it is different than the laundry detergent. I'm not sure if the laundry detergent is made for multi-purpose use or not, it's worth looking into. If you want to buy the mult-purpose cleaner I reccommend getting the concentrated solution you mix w/water yourself. It only takes two capfuls and the rest water for a regular size cleaning spray bottle (like a windex bottle). Just save your old Windex, or whatever, bottle and use that for the cleaner. I think it's even a really good deal cost-wise for the concentrated version. Mine has lasted me forever.

Cool, I wonder if we have that stuff around here. I'm gonna look for it next time thanks
