yep, i'm behind the times. but i'm sick of lugging the huge vacuum out everytime i want to clean the kitchen/bathroom floors. so are swiffers any good? will the cheapie one do a decent job or do i need the wet-jet?
I like the original swiffer with the dry cloths, I have had it for years and those cloths are great for grabbing hairs and dust, but not as great for dirt and sand drug in by shoes and dog paws.

the swiffers never really worked well for me. It's OK for fine dust and little bits of pet hair (not the type my dog sheds!) but it doesn't pick up real dirt or crumbs well IMO. I hated the wetjet. I used it when we had ceramic tile and it left a film. It would probably work well on linoleum though.
I just got an awesome little Dirt Devil vacuum for my kitchen floors, because although I love my Dyson, it's too heavy to drag out every time I need to pick up the dirt and hair.

it's battery-operated, rechargable, and much lighter and easier than a real vac. but it does a great job of sucking up hairballs and other little nasties...i got it at the recommendation of my aunt, whose dog sheds A TON, and she was right - it's great. i have no carpets in my house, so it's ideal, really...

I have all the Swiffers. I always use the original dry one; everyday actually. I use it by never lifting so that the bigger stuff is still collected; I guess it's easier said than done because DH can't use it and prefers a broom, but I threw the broom away upon discovering the Swiffer; I find it far more efficient and like that it doesn't encourage dust in the room the way brooms do. You can buy wet ones for the traditional Swiffer which I do use on ceramic tile in the bathroom; I never noticed a film. Oh, and a great tip my mom taught me is to turn over the swiffer wipe and use the other side; you get double the use that way (works for wet and dry versions).
I bought but never use the Swiffer vaccuum. I don't think the vaccuum is that great and I hate that it has limited use because you can't get under things like the traditional Swiffer, besides like I stated before I have devised a way to keep the bigger stuff contained so I guess I don't even need the vaccuum feature.
I also have the Swiffer wet which has a battery powered spray thing and diaper-like pads for mopping. I use this on my wood floors and am satisfied. I like that I don't have to use dirty water and instead can change the pad, ensuring things are as clean as I like. I do wish Murphey's Oil would hijack this sytem because if I could I would use that solution instead; I'm just convinced it's best for wood, plus I like the smell better than the stuff you have to use with the Swiffer system. But, it suits my needs as is.
And last, I have the Swiffer Flick for carpets. I bought it for the office and regret it. It works so so and really doesn't make sense. I should have bought a mini-vac instead.
Basically, I strive for total convenience when cleaning and really like disposable cleaning stuff so I really like Swiffer.
