I'm considering going on vacation with a friend but we haven't decided where to go. The problem is we live on complete opposite sides of the country (me in Western Canada, her on the East coast of the US) so I'd like to go somewhere where it wouldn't be a huge journey for one person, if possible. We aren't too picky about where exactly -beach, mountains whatever- but expense is key...we'd like to keep the cost low.
Do you want something more relaxing & low key or more active/sightseeing? Out of the way places? These are some fun cities:Boston, San Francisco, NYC, Los Angeles, San Diego/Catalina, Montreal

How about Jazz Fest in New Orleans? The tourist areas are all cleaned up (Mardi Gras went off without a hitch), and the line up is unreal -- tons of jazz arists and then some big names like Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan, Paul Simon, etc. Plus, they could use the tourist $$ down there right now, I'm seriously trying to get down there myself. :)
