how f-ing rude is this message from a "potential buyer":
$9.00 Shipping are you crazy? It's a dress that would fold up into a 6x6 envelope.
it's a dress, and it wouldn't fit into a 6 x 6 envelope unless it was one of those vacuum hose ones on infomercials. jeez, if you feel so strongly about it, just don't bid! no one's forcing you to. that is a totally fair price for shipping--usually i make the shipping too low and lose money on it, so i'm trying to find the balance. i shouldn't even respond to this person, right? just ignore?
i just got another one from a different buyer asking if i could take a money order. it says in like 3 places that i only take paypal. what the hell is wrong with these people? it's not a garage sale.
Just ignore stuff that will cause you stress. Remember, it's Ebay not your job. I agree though that people ask some stupid questions sometimes. I always keep in mind the "Intelligence Bell Curve" and remember that half the people in the world are on the left side...
i kind of want to say, "yes i am totally crazy and planning to finance my extravagant new yacht purchase with the exorbitant $9 shipping fees i am charging on e-bay for my 6 items i am selling this year."
well, cough, i am the type of ebayer that emails these type of questions!
buuut. i always make sure to email before bidding to see if the seller is flexible about shipping costs/etc. (ie, if on the auction it says "priority" i ask if they are willing to send it parcel post)
but there's a nice way of asking that question! not "are you crazy?!?!" that's just really rude. plus, it's a totally fair price for UPS Ground--i just sent a pair of shoes that were about the same size and weight, and it cost me $10.
if she would have said, "hey it's okay with me if the dress gets a bit smashed, would you be willing to ball it up in a tiny envelope and send it to me by parcel post?" i would have been likely to say yes.
so now one item has been won, by a person with zero feedbacks, who is located in canada. it is clearly stated in THREE separate places that i ship to US only. what is wrong with these people?! what do i do?
now another of my items has a leading bidder, also with zero feedbacks, also located in canada. do i cancel her bid? i'm so frustrated!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can block bidders that aren't located in the US, that takes care of a lot of hassle since I always had problems with Canadian bidders thinking they are excluded when you say United States ONLY!
I hardly think $9 shipping is an amount to squack over. You need to include your time and costs involved in selling and shipping. Damn Ebay is getting so expensive to sell stuff on anymore, they are getting GREEDY! I guess it helps minimize the amount of cheap crap nobody wants to bid on.
I only ever list prices for priority since the boxes/tyvek envelopes are free. If somebody asks if they could get it shipped otherwise, definintly not. In my case I would have to purchase a box or envelope making it cost even more to ship and I wouldn't be receiving free tracking.

so after e-mailing me some bogus message about how she couldn't find her credit card but would paypal me later that night, this winning bidder is now "no longer a registered user of ebay." sometimes i really hate people. i re-listed the dress, but jeez, couldn't she have let one of the other people who wanted it win it, rather than wasting everyone's time and reneging?
